EKKA! | Brisbane RNA Showground
It's that time of year again Brisbanites — ekka time! Kicking off this Friday until Sunday 17th, you've got ample time to stuff yourself with fairy floss, Dagwood dogs, and strawberry sundaes. Did we mention the showbags? With an even bigger variety than previous years, you'll be forced to make that tough decision between the Snickers bag and the Oreo.

Redlands Bluegrass Festival | Kindilan Convention Centre
Returning for its 20th year, the Redlands Bluegrass Festival will showcase some of Australia's best bluegrass and folk music artists, with the likes of The Pigs, The Round Mountain Girls and The Davidson Brothers, amongst others. Kicking off with a concert on Friday night, and continuing over the weekend this is a must for Brisbane's music fans. See the website for ticket information.
When: Friday 8th 6:30pm – 10:30pm, Saturday 9th 12noon – 11pm, Sunday 10th 12noon – 5pm.
Opening Night | The Fever Club
Hidden beneath the floorboards of Alfred & Constance lies new Brisbane bar, The Fever Club. Bringing a bit of Berlin to the Valley, you can expect leather booth seating, an incredible LED light show, and Euro-chic DJs.

Black Bear Turns Three! | Black Bear Lodge
Happy 3rd Birthday Black Bear! To celebrate this milestone, Black Bear Lodge is teaming up with Sailor Jerry and Four Thousand to present 'Party at the Lodge, a lodge-themed night of lumberjacks, flannelette, log cabins, with maple and bacon shots, and pine needle vodka, naturally. Tickets are $15, and strictly limited.

Splendour in the Glass | Brisbane Powerhouse
The team at Craggy Range wines, accompanied by the teams of Addley Clark Fine Wines, have teamed up to create Brisbane's newest boutique wine and food show. The festival will feature wines from Craggy Range, Stefano Lubiana Wines, Tscharke Wines, and Montalto, just to name a few. Guests will also be spoilt for choice on the food front, with fare from the likes of 1889 Enoteca, Stella May Fine Foods, Locanda Osteria, and Mayfield Chocolates. Tickets are $80 per person, and the price includes a glass of Schott Zwiesel wine glass, as well as wine and food tastings from all suppliers. Um, dream day out?
Brewer's Table | Tippler's Tap
Ever wanted to throw back a beer or two while enjoying breakfast? Well, for the month of August, Tippler's Tap and Ekim Brewing Co. present Brewer's Table. Offering a spectacular five-course breakfast with accompanying beers (um, yes please!), Mike Jorgensen (from Ekim Brewing Co.) will be on hand to talk about the brewery, his brewery process, and, of course, the five beers being featured in the breakfast degustation. Tickets are limited to 30 people, and ticket sales close at 5pm today. So hop to it Brisbane!
'Instant' By George Byrne | Volumes Gallery
Volumes Gallery is proud to play host to the work of LA based, Australian photographer, George Byrne, for his third and final Australian exhibition. Join the team at Volumes on 'ekka eve' for a night of photographic excellence, accompanied by the superb fare provided by the Local Mobile Deli food truck.
Mekka Garden Party | Doomben Racecourse
No plans for the Ekka holiday? This year's annual Ekka race day is set to be bigger, and better, than ever! The 'Mekka race day' has become an iconic thing to do in Brisbane on the Ekka hol', and one you won't want to miss. Our pick of the marquees is the Mekka Garden Party, brought to you by The Exchange Hotel and the Elephant Hotel, with pop-up bars, a gourmet barbecue, and DJs playing all your favourite tunes, you're in for a fun day out! Tickets are $45, and include a drink on arrival, as well as a shuttle to the official after-parties (the Elephant or The Exchange – your choice!).

Winter Fest | Riverlife
If a day at the races isn't what you had in mind for this year's Ekka holiday, never fear, you've got options. Riverlife are hosting a Winter Fest event, with live entertainment and boutique markets, as well as a mulled wine and hot rum bar. Indulge in delicious treats straight from the chef's kitchen, then kick back in riverlife's cosy (and heated) venue, and enjoy the view. Tickets are $35 per person, so get in quick!
HeartsKids Gala Ball | Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre
Celebrate with HeartKids Queensland at the 30th annual gala ball, an exclusive evening filled with wonderful wine, fabulous food and awesome entertainment, with proceeds going to HeartKids Queensland to provide support to those facing childhood heart disease. Tickets are $190 person and include pre drinks, a three-course meal, beverages, and live entertainment.
