Where To Find Brisbane’s Best Sausage Sizzles This Election

I think we can all agree that regardless of who you’re voting for come Saturday, the best part of any election is exercising your democratic rights the sausage sizzle and cake stall adjacent to the polling booth.

Especially if it’s been a long time since you’ve had access to a tuckshop, election days are one of the only ways to get your hands on the likes of homemade lamingtons, cupcakes, jam drops and pikelets, as well as a bona fide old school sausage sizzle.

At the Urban List we advocate being informed, and if the Brexit has taught us anything, it’s that you only get one chance to get it right. (1 million people reportedly googled ‘What Is The EU?’ after the Brexit vote).

Like the political parties, we can only go on past performance, but with a helping hand from our buddies at Election Sausage Sizzles, here’s a list of some of the top sausage sizzles around Brisbane to make sure you hit up a stellar option when you vote.

St Sebastian’s Primary School

St Sebs in Yeronga is not only my beloved former primary school, it is also known for dishing up chocolate-y homemade lamingtons and baked goods like no one else.

Yeronga State School

Offering sausages, drinks, cakes and cookies this year, along with a chance to win a State of Origin jersey, Yeronga State School is all about #options. And as it is a mere kilometre from St Sebs, there’s no reason you can’t hit up both.

Holy Spirit Primary School

The clever clogs at Holy Spirit Primary School in New Farm are providing Merlo Coffee with their bake sale and locally-sourced sausages in their sausage sizzle. Fancy.

St Augustine’s Anglican Church

Churches always offer great trade in homemade baked goods and St Augustine’s in Ascot is known for being one of the best. We’ll be hoping for pikelets, scones and a retro pack of coconut ice.

Toowong Uniting Church

The Toowong Uniting Church knows election day is all about the food and has classic cakes, sausages on bread and soft drinks at the ready.

Payne Road State School

Not just an election stall, the ‘Payne Road Bonza BBQ’ is coming in hot with hamburgers, sausages, spinach rolls and a stocked coffee van so you’re thinking clearly when you vote.

Camp Hill State Primary School

Egg and bacon rolls are on the menu at Camp Hill State School. If you’re hungover on Saturday maybe make a beeline here?

Norman Park State School

Norman Park State School are the Greens of the sausage sizzle options: all proceeds from the sausage sizzle and cupcakes go to a worthy cause, upgrading the school's classrooms.
