On September 27 the combined forces of Fire and Water will collide in an explosive spectacle casting rainbow fractals across our beloved city. Make for high ground — the season of Riverfire is nigh! Now all you need to do is decide where to watch it.

Not everyone has access to a sweeping vista of the Brisbane River; thankfully there are tonnes of venues along the waterfront happy to share their prime views with the greater public. We've compiled a comprehensive list of the best places in Brisbane to watch Riverfire without getting your socks wet.  There will be great drinks, spectacular food, and celebrations of the riparian revelry long into the night.

This is the night when Brisbane jumps, so make sure you know where to watch Riverfire this year.

Prime Riverside RIVERFIRE

Watching the fireworks from the city-bank is the prime seat of many Brisbane Riverfire enthusiasts, and you can't pass up a spot at Fridays, Popolo or Eve's on the River. You're up close to the sparkling explosions glinting off the water, and the visual glory is so, so shiny… Seriously if you've never been to Riverfire, leave your cat at home.

The Kitty | CBD

For prime CBD Riverfire watching location, you should try The Kitty bar in the Treasury Casino & Hotel, which combines views of Riverfire straight from the heart of the action, AND a late license, so the party never needs to end! Smooth beats, kicking cocktails, and a killer view? You can't top that! To reserve a booth contact The Kitty here.

One of the best views of Riverfire is actually away from the fray. Being in the heart of the super-aquatic pyrotechnics is exhilarating, but nothing beats the visual spectacular of the firelight refracting off the water, and the glass 'scrapers of the CBD.

The South Bank Surf Club, Story Bridge Hotel, The Fox Hotel, StokehouseWatt, and Bar Alto are among our favourite places to watch all the light-things at a safe (but rowdy) distance.

South Bank Surf Club | South Bank

South Bank Surf Club has just the right level of relaxedness we look for on these otherwise hectic nights of the year, when every man and his dog hits the town. If you're hunting a spot to watch Riverfire that won't see you squashed in a human sandwich, but rather chilling with friends and eating great pub food, SBSC is a good bet. As well as one of Brisbane's best views of the fireworks, they'll also have live entertainment all night long. Tickets to their Riverfire event are $105pp and include a 3-course menu and 3-hour drinks package. Click here for more details!

WHERE TO WATCH river fire

Story Bridge Hotel | Kangaroo Point

Combining two of the best events of the year — the AFL final and Riverfire — the Story Bridge Hotel are totally bringing it for Riverfire this year with one epic street party! As well as live entertainment and all-day dining, they'll also be showing the game on a massive 20m screen, and then invite you to kick on into the evening for the fireworks spectacular! Book a table and bring your whole crew — this is going to go off!

Dandy's Rooftop Bar | South Brisbane

The technicoloured rooftop of Brisbane's iconic Fox Hotel is known for more than just killer drinks and a rad time. Dandy's also comes with a riverscape vantage, perfect all your 2014 Riverfire needs. This year's event is set to be an absolute cracker, with tickets scoring you a four-hour drinks and food package (including all the barbecued meats your little heart could desire), and one of the best seats in the house. Hot tip: If you book 10 or more tickets you'll receive a complementary magnum of Mumm Champagne! Click here for more details or to book.

Aria | CBD

If you're keen to avoid the masses, Aria has a delicious night planned, complete with serene views of the fireworks. Matt Moran has designed a special three-course menu for the night, with a choice of 5 dishes per course, with a glass of Bartlett's sparkling on arrival. There are two seating times available, 5pm and 8:15pm, contact Aria to make a reservation.

Pony Dining | CBD

Pony have two Riverfire event options, depending on your party style. One is a cocktail package which includes canapes, a cocktail on arrival, and a four-hour drinks package, and the other is Pony's usual, supremely delicious dining (perfect for groups). You find all the details here. Giddy up!

One-Off Riverfire Events

Riverfire+Ice | Esquire

Still not sure where to watch Riverfire this year? Why not think out of the box and do something special; Audi, EuroMarque, Maserati, and Bentley are also helping us celebrate Riverfire, and they're doing some good while they're at it. They will be hosting a lavish cocktail event at the pride of Brisbane, Esquire. Guests will be treated to stunning cocktails, delicious food, live music, and breathtaking views of the riparian spectacular. All profits will go to the Lord Mayor's Charitable Trust and the 40 odd charities it supports. That's what I call good karma. Click here to find out more and book your tickets!

Sirromet Food + Wine | Emirates House

Sirromet's three-day spring soiree (a food and wine lovers paradise that includes a wine and cheese night, and a jazz and shiraz event) ends with a bang for Riverfire. The big night in question will feature live music, a photo booth (fun!), appearances by some of Brisbane's favourite food trucks (including Pizzantica, The Bun Mobile, and Local Mobile Deli), Sirromet's award-winning wines, and, of course, spectacular views of the river.
