The Winter Weekend Escape

By Andrew Tynan - 17 Jun 2012

With winter upon us, we've stashed away the bikinis and board shorts until next summer season...sigh! But even lashing rain and brisk winds couldn't stop the The Urban List team from escaping to the Sunshine Coast for the Labour Day long weekend. We found the following activities perfect heart-starters for a winter weekend escape:

The self-proclaimed coffee nerds at Sunshine Beach's Costa Noosa arguably serve up the region's best brew. Roasting and grinding their own beans daily for over six years, Costa has racked up an impressive list of accolades.  The Capricorn blend was the winner of two awards at the CSR Golden Bean Competition 2009/10.

While it'd be rad to have Kelly Slater or some similarly dreamy (and totally gnarly) surfer dude for company, you can still catch all the surfing action with a stroll through the beautiful Noosa National Park. We recommend starting at Sunshine Beach side, where you will be met with a wall of blood-pumping stairs as you enter from the beach.   Sunshine to Noosa will take you just under two hours, but the breakfast waiting for you at Hastings St fave, Bistro C, is oh so worth it!

No trip to the Sunshine Coast is complete without visiting the Noosa Farmers Market. Located in the Noosa AFL Grounds on Eenie Meenie Creek Road, these markets take place every Sunday and showcase the freshest local produce. Our favourite is the Gympie Farm stall, where you can indulge your senses with Camille's award-winning goat cheeses.

After you pick up your weekend essentials at the Markets and snatch a well-deserved nap, call in at Peregian Beach for dinner at Pitchfork Restaurant. New to the dining scene, Pitchfork serves up Modern Australian in a relaxed setting.  With menus constantly changing to reflect the season, there is something to satisfy all winter urges.
