The verdict

Named after TC Beirne, an Irish Australian businessman who practically built this town, TCB & Co. is heritage-steeped house of the people, and Beirne Lane is its designated hub. A bar and eatery that’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They literally never close.

Headed by chef Zac Sykes, the food offerings reflect the Irish heritage and Japanophilia of Beirne’s namesake. To that end, expect a lot of potato fries covered in Japanese curry, katsu sandwiches, chicken fat popcorn, and the meme-world’s favourite partystarter: cob loaf.

For tipples, Beirne Lane takes its drinks list very seriously. Their wine cellar is chock full of organic and biodynamic as well as natural wines (meaning minimal intervention in the old tradition of winemaking). For something a bit special to kick off the night, Beirne’s signature cocktail draws inspiration from a passage in TC Beirne’s autobiography where he describes a drink that took three days to recover from. Named after his last words before passing out, ‘Oh Boys, We Must Have Another’ is a constantly changing twist on a Tiki-style Fogcutter. But if you’re not quite ready to take that plunge, Beirne also has a cracking list of beers on tap.

With such a stonking array of quality food and bev, the memory of TCB & Co. hospitality lives on.
