Ah, the humble toastie. So simple, yet so satisfying.

Everyone loves a good sanga, but something magical happens when you slather the outside with butter and fry that bread to golden, crisp perfection. Here at Metropolist, we believe it’s important to appreciate these simple pleasures in life so, just for you, we have tracked down some of the best toasties on the Gold Coast.

Good Day Coffee

If you find yourself down Tugun way, you’ll probably already be stopping at Good Day for one of their excellent coffees. While you’re there, Good Day Coffee’s epic line-up of toasties should have your attention. We always head straight for the smoked ham with mushroom and triple cheese; satisfaction guaranteed.

Where: Gold Coast Highway, Tugun

Hendrixx Espresso

One of our fave spots in Palm Beach, Hendrixx Espresso has a fab range of your favourite after-school snack: the jaffle! With six different varieties, you’ll be spoilt for choice. We recommend the Hendrixx Benny jaffle with hollandaise dipping sauce, although you won’t be disappointed with the good ol’ baked beans and cheese or the spag bol jaffle either. Oh, and they’re served on Burleigh Bakery’s crusty sourdough, so you know you’re in for a treat.

Paddock Bakery

You just know Paddock Bakery is going to serve up a prime example of the toastie. We particularly love the turkey cranberry; think freshly sliced turkey breast, triple cream Brie, maple bacon, and spinach toasted between some incredible cranberry walnut sourdough. Brie. Toasted. In a sandwich. It’s a big old party in your mouth with every bite.

Randy Wallhole

One of our favourite spots in Sopo (Southport, get it?) to grab a casual bite is new kid on the block, Randy Wallhole. Give one of their jaffles a go, specifically Mum’s Special—a classic combo of Heinz spaghetti and cheese. Best enjoyed with the brownie milkshake which, yes, is as good as it sounds.

Where: 22 Nind Street, Southport

All Time Coffee Co.

There is no greater feeling than waking up on a weekend, maybe with a slightly sore head, and knowing one of Gold Coast’s best toasties are waiting for you at All Time Coffee Co. in Mermaid Beach. On offer are some simple yet delicious old faves like vegemite and cheese; and pulled chicken, avo, and cheese. Our pick, though? BBQ pulled pork, cheese, and spicy jalapenos. Of course, vegan options are always available too. Hurrah!

The Sandwich Bros now have a bricks and mortar store in Surfers Paradise, hurrah! No longer will it be a case of wondering are they or aren’t they at market so and so. Drool-worthy Cubans, Reubens, and service with a beaming smile, what’s not to love?

Where: 7/38 Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Sparrow Eating House

We know any trip to Sparrow is a guarantee for some good eating, so is it any surprise you can find one of the best toasties on the Gold Coast right here? The ever-popular and equally delicious banoffee jaffle, served with salted caramel sauce, is sure to curb those sweet toastie cravings. It would be rude not to try it.

Where: 2/32 Lavarack Road, Nobby Beach
