Listen up, Gold Coast, ‘cause this news is finger-lickin’ freakin’ awesome.
Brisbane’s official chicken wing kings (try and say that 10 times really fast—we dare you) are heading to the Gold Coast—permanently! And according to our in-the-know Brissy friends, we should be very excited.
King of the Wings was Australia’s first chicken wing food truck and has since been voted in the top three wings in Australia. They’ve even represented Oz in Buffalo, New York at the world’s biggest Buffalo Wing Festival—bonus points if you already knew that was a thing. Yep, these guys are serious about their fried chicken.
King of the Wings are teaming up with a Gold Coast icon and are migrating south to establish a substantial 150-seat restaurant on Surfers Paradise’s bustling Orchid Avenue—perfect for pre and post bar hopping. Woot!
For us lucky bastards, this means gnarly chunks of some of the south east’s tastiest wings in all kinds of flavours including southern spice (a different south), traditional buffalo, and some spicier numbers to challenge our taste bud tolerance. Also on the expanded menu will be boneless chicken sliders in various flavours and sweet potato wedges, plus vegetarian and gluten free options. And frosty brews, of course, ‘cause the two go hand in hand, obvs.
Though, we’ve been promised, this will be more than just a dedicated chicken wing restaurant. King of the Wings intends to become a fun loving oh-so Gold Coast diner that will emblazon a colourful icon of our circa-1960s history in lights, forever.
How, you ask?
Move over America’s Hooters, ‘cause this Surfers Paradise restaurant is teaming up with the Coast’s very own Meter Maids! Yes, these gold-embossed beauties are stepping in as your attentive, smiling waitresses. True story. Love or loathe the idea, can you get more Surfers Paradise? We think not!
And you won’t need to wait long either, with this newbie set to open late March. To celebrate, they’ll be giving away free wings for five hours between 12pm and 5pm on opening day. Hola!
What: Meter Maids Bar with King Of The Wings
Where: 26 Orchid Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Did you hear? Surfers Paradise is soon to welcome Australia’s best mini golf too. Srsly!
