Just because you might not be able to get there right now, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be planning your next trip to Byron Bay. Especially when news like we’re about to share is popping up just south of the border.
Opening this week, The Surf House is Byron Bay’s brand new boutique hostel, complete with the town’s first and only open air rooftop bar. No lie.
Located just two streets back from Main Beach in the heritage-listed Byron Council Chambers building, The Surf House effortlessly combines the building’s original architecture with modern design to bring guests a one-of-a-kind accommodation experience and we’re digging it.
Don’t let the ‘hostel’ tag frighten you though, because The Surf House is so much more than that. Setting out to combine the quality service and facilities of a hotel, alongside the laid-back vibe and social aspects of a hostel, you’ll find a range of room options available. From private queen rooms with balcony, ensuite and even ocean views (!) to shared rooms that can accommodate anywhere from four to eight sleeping heads, The Surf House is the kind of place you can book for a fun night away with your lover or a group of your best mates—it’s that versatile.
The style reflects the old-school surf culture of Byron, so it’s no surprise that you can also take advantage of complimentary surf boards, perfect for a late afternoon session before the aperitifs begin.
Which brings us to the bar. Basically, we’ve never met a rooftop bar we didn’t like, and The Surf House is no exception. Decked out with vintage Aussie surf posters and photos, the bar is the perfect spot to unwind with local drops—a cold beer from Stone & Wood or a Brookie’s G&T from Cape Byron Distillery, perhaps.
With most of aching to getaway to our favourite NSW beach town, now is the time to start planning your next weekender. But beware, don’t cram too much into your Byron itinerary just yet. As restrictions begin to lift, The Surf House team will also be adding a bunch of free social activities to The Surf House’s offerings, including yoga, guided lighthouse tours and personal training classes. Sounds like fun, huh?
