Cinco De Mayo Fiesta | Friday 5
Originally reserved to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory in 1862, Beach Burrito Company in Coolangatta will be throwing a Cinco De Mayo (meaning May 5) fiesta fit with Cadillac margaritas, giveaways from Jose Cuervo Tequila, piñatas, and perhaps the return of their famous flash-fried tequila muffins. Finally, someone has combined our two favourite things! Hanging around the northern end? California Cantina is also jumping in on the action with Patron cocktails and live music, bookings essential. Join in on the festivities from 6pm (both locations) and don’t forget to pack your sombrero, amigo!
Night Food Safari At The Kitchens | Friday 5
Say hellooo to a twilight smorgasbord of mouth-watering cuisine at The Kitchens, Robina’s most talked about night-time feasting place. The debut of The Kitchens night food safari will take place this May, so snatching up your ticket will no doubt be one of the best things to do on the Gold Coast this month. Begin your journey at Honey Eater kitchen where Trent Scarr and co. will be serving up delectable canapés and magical cocktails before jumping on the safari bandwagon and travelling to your next stop. Asian-inspired entrees from Chong Co and Hero Sushi Platinum will combine modern and traditional flavours to really spice up your palate. Then, jet set off to Venezuela where Fiery Deli will be serving incredible Latin favourites of South America, worthy of a booty shake or two. Next, be wowed at Saiko Teppanyaki where dinner delights will be whizzing through the air to plates, sliced and diced to perfection. And, last stop, sweet tooths woo-ing their way to Elixiba. Rich with raw desserts and a fully-stocked espresso martini bar, you’ll end your night on a high.
Boozy Brunch Club At Finders Keepers | Saturday 6
Love the sound of a boozy brunch? Of course you do! April 29 marked the launch of Finders Keepers new brunch club, and now they’re bringing you the goods every Saturday in May! Kicking off from 11am, James Street’s cutest eatery just got a little more edgy. Fifty bucks will get you a thirst-quenching orange sorbet mimosa cocktail on arrival and a selection of light and savoury brunch treats. Organic sourdough Parmesan French toast, house-cured Atlantic salmon, and a chestnut and strawberry wonut (waffle-doughnut) are on the menu. Bookings essential.
GC Suns Vs Geelong At Metricon | Saturday 6
Kicking off the first weekend in May, the Gold Coast Suns are taking on Geelong Cats for what is set to be an action-packed game at Metricon Stadium. Never risk lining up at the bar or spilling your drink enroute again, when you can book a posi at the brand new Carlton Draught Front Bar. With a front row seat of the action and bar within arm’s reach, $50 includes your game ticket and beer on entry to the Front Bar. Plus, $1 from every ticket sold at Round 7 will be donated to Gold Coast anti-domestic violence charities, so you’ll be supporting the hard work of great organisations while supporting our local faves. The legends at Hellenika have joined forces with Miami Marketta to bring you a lunchtime feast to get your senses well and truly tingling. Hellenika’s long lunch at Marketta starts at noon, transforming their décor to an intimate Greek-inspired dining hall. From the band, to the menu, even beer, wine and ouzo, this will be an all day celebration of everything Greek. For just over $100, you’ll be treated to scrumptious gourmet menu items like fava, char-grilled octopus, and veal dolmades, as well as whole snapper, baked lamb, fresh fruits, and so much more. This 18+ event is predicted to get chins wagging all over the Gold Coast—and rightly so. The clever guys at Marketta haven’t gone overboard with the ticket limit to this exclusive event, so you’d better hurry if you’re keen to be a part of Hellenika and Marketta’s exquisite dining experience.
Green Marquee Eco Markets | Saturday 13
Launching a brand new eco-friendly market this May, The Green Marquee is set to be a new favourite weekend must-do, every second Saturday. Setting up camp at Currumbin Valley’s Eco Village, you can expect interesting workshops, unique fashion and beauty essentials, as well as food trucks or glorious picnic hampers for an all day graze. All products support a local, sustainable, natural, and hand-made mantra, so you can get your hands on some high quality goods filled with love and delicate intricacies. Wander down from 7am to grab a freshly-brewed morning coffee and hang around for live music and afternoon bites until these local legends pack up a bit after midday.
Tropical Fiesta Salsa At Fiery Deli | Saturday 13
Work up a sweat and get saucy with Fiery Deli’s Tropical Fiesta. Boasting a live Latin DJ, tunes by Chukale, free salsa class, Frosé and Balter on tap, what more could you want? Chow down on delicious South American cuisine and indulge in a sneaky cocktail or five. If you’ve not yet discovered where Fiery Deli have relocated, head upstairs at The Kitchens, Robina Town Centre (from 7pm).

Spoil your love-filled mumma this Mother’s Day like the good offspring you are. There’s heaps of things to do on the Gold Coast so give mum the day off cooking and take her along to one of these cheek-pinch-worthy bonanzas. Gold Coast Botanic Gardens Food Truck Picnic in Benowa kicks off at 12 for a day of free music, eats, and family fun. Further down the coast, Walrus Social House in Surfers is hosting a decadent high tea fit for a Queen. Serving ribbon sandwiches, hand-made scones and glasses of Chandon on entry, keep the chocolate fountain grand finale a secret and check out the look on mum’s face when she spots it. QT Gold Coast are also hosting their extravagant QTea Mother’s Day spectacular, which is definitely worth looking into (we all know how much mum’s love tea). Blues On Broadbeach | Thursday 18 — Sunday 21
Position your barricades people. The annual Blues On Broadbeach street festival is rolling into town again this May and it’s gonna be a big one. This action-packed, 15 stage street crawl of bluesy bliss has broadened its artist scope to bring you a line up that trumps all others. Harts, 19-Twenty, Little Georgia, as well as Byron Bluesfest busking finalist Matt Stillert, Captain Dreamboat, and Claude Hay are joining the stages with resident groovers Juzzie Smith, Cheap Fakes, and The James Street Preachers. Spanning from newly named The Star all the way down through to Broadbeach’s streets, parklands and open-air mall, you’ll be getting down to some seriously funky beats all day, and all of the night. Not to mention your unlimited choices for eats from Broadbeach’s local restaurants, cafes, and bars. Pack your picnic blanket, hip flask and stomping shoes to feel the full experience of what Blues on Broadbeach has on offer this May!
Art At The Grange | FRIDAY 19
Sanctuary Cove’s The Grange will be hosting Tracie Eaton’s Emergence Showcase this May. Check out artistic installations, photography and paintings; belly aching comedy, and soulful tunes by Brown Suga at this lady-loving affair. Everything kicks off at 7pm so book your tickets and head on over for bubbly, canapés, and meet and greets with high profile Gold Coast women as they have their bodies completely painted by local artists as part of a living works of art showcase. Tracie has joined with charity Opportunity International Australia to inject economic empowerment to women in disadvantaged communities. Artworks sold on the night will be providing support to global microfinance funding and education programs made possible by OIA. Interesting fact: badminton is one of the most watched sports during every Olympic and Commonwealth Games telecast. Meet The Maker Winemaker Dinner At 8th Ave Terrace | Wednesday 24
We’re huge fans of 8th Ave Terrace. And if you love knowing a bit of background about what lands on your plate or in your glass, then jot this one down. This month, artisan winemakers from Dog Point Wines (Marlborough, NZ), will pair four incredible wines with a four-course meal made at the hands of the 8th Ave Terrace crew, including their exceptionally talented new head chef, Chris Harrington. The menu is yet to be revealed but we’re pretty confident it’ll be spectacular, so book your table now (only 35 seats available at $85pp) if you wanna get a look-in.

Get amongst the action this May and head along to Polo By The Sea. This Main Beach full day affair is one for the fancy folk of the Gold Coast, but who says we can’t pretend for the day?
