There’s so much action happening on the Coast this weekend, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Secret dinner parties, pop-up markets, pre-loved clothing sales, free music fests; this is the kind of send-off that winter deserves. No plans? That’s about to change with this epic round up of things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend.
TAPS PYO Launch Party | Friday, August 19
Have you heard the news? This week the Gold Coast gained a brand spankin’ new bar that hands over the reins, allowing YOU to pour your own beer. Say what?! First opened in Mooloolaba and next Brisbane, after months in the works, TAPS PYO has just landed on Surfers Paradise’s Orchid Avenue (naturally). If you’ve ever encountered a pour-your-own beer hall on a boozy European vacay, you’ll know how dangerous fun it can be to sit around your own set of beer taps guzzling frosty brews. To celebrate the launch, they’re throwing a part-ay this Friday night from 7pm, and y’all invited! There’s a ton of frivolities planned including live music, free on-site barbering by Johnny Voodoo, beer pong, giant Jenga, magic shows, and a hand-painted skateboard giveaway. Who’s keen?
Feast Under a Tipi by Etsu | Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20
When we helped break news of Etsu’s latest project Feast Under A Tipi, you guys went a little, okay a LOT cray cray. With an overwhelming response “Winter Wasabi Wonderland” sold out in mere hours, and this weekend lucky ticket holders will be treated to a five-course wasabi-inspired feast with matching wines and sake, while entertained by fab duo, The James Street Preachers; all under glittering lights and the canopy of a tipi. Good news is, folks, the incredibility talented Etsu team are planning to host a Feast Under A Tipi night every quarter—with the next event penned in for October, so you’d best get your interest in early.
Broadbeach Jazz Weekend | Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21
First it was blues, then country; now another month and another music-filled weekend of good times is on the cards for Broadbeach. Struth! Sultry, hip-shimming jazz music will permeate from several outdoor stages, with roving entertainment, street markets, and plenty of local restaurants ready to keep you fed and watered. Names you might know include Bustamento, Monica Trapaga, and local boys, Hanlon Brothers. Better yet, Broadbeach Jazz Weekend is totally free.
Her Wardrobe | Sunday, August 21
We bloody love a good pre-loved clothing market; why buy one new item for $100 when you can get 10 for the same price? Her Wardrobe has been doing the rounds of South East Queensland, and is set return to the vintage-lovin’ Gold Coast and Robina Community Centre this weekend. So, how does it work? Pay a $2 entry fee, and you’ll gain access to over 70 stalls of second-hand clothing from local girls. That’s something like 10,000 potential new-to-you outfits all piled into one space—a thrifter’s paradise. Bring your game face and get in early for the best treasures; doors open 8am sharp.
Savasana Sundaze at Burleigh Brewing | Sunday, August 21
Fellas, have you been trying to lure your lover along to a brewery, but with no success? Ladies, are you dying to see your man discover his inner-yogi? Well, we’ve got an event for you! Burleigh Brewing is teaming up with Lululemon Athletica to curate an afternoon that brings activewear and tank-to-tap brews beautifully crashing together. Savasana Sundaze is the first-ever yoga class to be hosted at Burleigh Brewing, where like-minded dudes can connect, stretch out, and reward themselves afterwards with beer. Partners welcome too (of course) and the brewery remains open through until 6pm. Starting at 1pm sharp, the yoga class is free to attend but RSVPs are essential.
Weekend brunching at Local & Co. | All weekend long
Not exactly an event, though it could be a momentous event in the re-vitalisation of Main Beach’s once-thriving dining scene. Newly opened this week (read: yesterday!), Local & Co. Espresso Bar is a minimalist yet quality addition that’s raising the cool stakes on Tedder Avenue. During our cheeky visit yesterday, we devoured, and we totes recommend you bee-line for too, are brekky menu treats including the Healthy Start with next-level beetroot labneh or the delish Nutella waffles with a side of local brews by Social Espresso. Or, take your pick from easy-pleaser menu items including gourmet burgers, pastas, and creative salads. We have a sneaking suspicion this is a sign of very good things to come for the area… #bringbacktedder
