I say açaí, you say yes! The so-called superfood berry, with origins from deep within the Amazon rainforest, is jam-packed with omega-3 fatty acids (an anti-inflammatory), antioxidants (to help reduce cholesterol), calcium and vitamins for healthy skin, nails and hair.
Açaí looks and tastes like a blueberry descended from the Amazonian gods, but in the modern day, we think it’s best served in “açaí bowl” format – that is, complemented by an assortment of fresh fruit, crunchy granola, honey and yoghurt. It’s peak breakfast in a bowl.
So where to get all this goodness? From THE açaí specialists themselves. Brisbane’s Kiss the Berry have been sharing their love of the berry since 2013, and it’s spread all the way to their Burleigh Heads shopfront. If you haven’t been açaí-bowled over yet, have you even Gold Coasted?
If you thought açaí was reserved just for the summer times - do not pass go, do not collect $200. Kiss the Berry has crafted a seasonal, winter-warming menu, so you can snuggle up to your fave bowl of açaí even when the mercury drops. (20 degrees Celsius is winter, right?)
There are six items on their winter menu, so count us in for the apple crumble. It’s a crowd favourite, and we can see why. Down below is a heavenly base of açaí, bananas, apple juice, and up top is the “crumble” of crunchy granola, coconut flakes and walnut. It’s finished with coconut yoghurt, stewed apples, and fragrant cinnamon. It’s like….warm apple pie on your spoon, and a food-gasm in your mouth.
And aaah, the waffles. At Kiss the Berry, our favourite quadrilateral dessert comes in a two-high stack, draped with a dream-team compote of blueberry and açaí, creamy peanut butter, coconut nectar and cinnamon. Sure, you could try sharing this with your bestie, but you’ll probably damage your friendship fighting for the last corner. Oh, and did we mention it’s vegan?
Kiss the Berry also serve up bowls of açaí-laced matcha lattes, mint hot chocolate bowls (made with raw chocolate), and an oat-and-hemp porridge bowl that’s so dang tasty, you’ll practically inhale it.
There’s a lot of açaí berry goodness at this Gold Coast outpost, so pucker up, and Kiss the Berry. Mwah!
