What do Melburnians like to when it’s cold outside? Eat, drink and hang indoors. Well Melburnians, we’re proud to say that the events on this week tick all the boxes. You can cosy up at a unique theatre performance, drink a whole lot of gin or gin-infused eats to celebrate World Gin Day, feast on divine local produce at a food and wine pop up, party in your snow gear, and drink mulled wine like it’s nobody’s business.
Check out our list of 5 awesome things to do in Melbourne this week.
Food + Wine Pop Up in Mornington
The dynamic ex-Tonka duo behind the Food + Wine Pop Up are hosting winter winery lunches from Thursday to Monday until June 20 at Avani Winery on the Mornington Peninsula. The focus is on local and seasonal share-style food and Avani and VIC wines, as well as some other small handmade, organic and biodynamic producers from around the country. A 5-course set menu, including a return shuttle bus from the city, can be booked on Monday 6th and 20th. No #mondaytitis here, folks.
Keep By Owl & Cat Theatre | Richmond
The Owl & Cat Theatre are making shocking theatre aimed to challenge our thought patterns—and at a budget of $100 a show, they’re doing a damn good job. The storyline of their new play opening on Tuesday should resonate with all the hoarders out there, except maybe the last part. The protagonist, trapped in her home by her own belongings, is faced with an intervention by her sisters who subsequently find that the clean up is more difficult than they first thought as old resentments and secrets boil to the surface. Intrigued? Grab your tickets here.
Queen Vic Winter Night Market
If you missed the opening of the Queen Vic Winter Night Market last Wednesday, you simply have to get amongst the action this week. Last week we cozied up with mulled wine and comfort street food including 400 Gradi’s reowned woodfired pizzas and The Brass Coq’s fried chicken. And we’ll sure as hell be back this weekend to experience it all over again….so guys, join us!
Rooftop Snow Party at Hotel Barkly | St Kilda
I think a lot of us have asked our friends on more than one occasion whether its acceptable to go out in a snowsuit on a freezing Melbourne night. Well, I’m pleased to say that it is acceptable, even welcomed, at this Snow Party... and so are polar bear, Eskimo and Penguin costumes. Expect a snow machine, killer DJs, Aussie BBQ food and epic giveaways including double passes to Mount Buller. Check out the deets here.
World Gin Day At Four Pillars Distillery | Healesville
To celebrate World Gin Day, Four Pillars is putting on a whole day of festivities at the distillery for the all gin lovers out there. The morning will kick off with home made scones served with the famous Four Pillars Orange Marmalade. If you’re feelin’ something more substantial, Burn City Smokers food truck will be serving up pulled pork rolls using the first-ever Four Pillars GIN PIG all day long. Yep, the distillery has been feeding local Berkshire pigs the botanicals that they have leftover after distillation. Of course, free gin tastings will be on offer all day and gin paddles, G&Ts and Negroni’s available to purchase at the bar. Mmmm the perfect long weekend Saturday indeed.
