5 Awesome Things To Do In Melbourne This Week

By Peter Tzimos - 31 Oct 2016

With Halloween and the Spring Racing Carnival this week, there’s not a single second to waste. The likes of Circa and the NGV are teaming up this week to give you the best start to the holiday season ever, so make sure you have a read before you book yourself out.

Monday 31st

Spooktober Festival

Let one of Melbourne’s most horrifying institutions petrify you this week with a Halloween festival for all ages. With a food truck village, haunted houses, costume contests, and trick or treat for all ages, Spooktober Halloween Festival at St Kilda Town Hall is the best way to celebrate the scariest holiday of the year. Entry to the grounds is free, with tickets for haunted houses and activities available here. Also, there’s free Wizz Fizz—need we say more?

Stranger Things Halloween

If a festival isn’t really your thing, don’t worry—Good Things has you covered. With a dual celebration of both the fearsome festivities of Halloween and Netflix series Stranger Things, all the ghouls, ghosts, goblins, and freaks of the night will be heading down to get their boogie on to some of Jonathan Byers’ favourite tracks. A free photo-booth and spooky themed cocktails will keep you feeling supernatural all night long, with doors open from 9pm. Check it out here.

Tuesday 1st

After-Party for a Prince

With the Melbourne Cup on your screens and drinks in your hands, you’re sure to want to party this racing season. The Deck at Circa is hosting one of the hottest after-parties around town, with VIP guests, local DJs and enough finger food to feed a horse. With parties on Derby, Cup and Oakes Days, there’s still more than enough time to enjoy a bit of a bet, readjust your fascinators and come down to St Kilda to celebrate this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival. Entry is free, with the beats and booze flowing from 5pm. More info is available here.

Thursday 3rd

Kaleidoscopic Cocktail Lab

In celebration of Good Food Month, the cocktail brainiacs at The Noble Experiment are cooking up some creative cocktails to showcase their love of fun and all things mad science. Prepare for your mind to be blown by some of the best in the industry, with almost everything but the date a surprise. Tickets are $75, including seven canapés and three cocktails. Get in quick and book here.

Car Wash Keynote

If you’ve ever wanted to go through a neon pink car wash fully clothed, then a) your dreams are about to come true, and b) you have awfully strange dreams. Regardless, the new architecture commission at the NGV is open, so don’t miss the panel of architects give a keynote presentation on how Melbourne’s brightest new installation comments on our everyday suburban lives. Bookings are free but essential so don’t miss out.
