5 Awesome Things To Do In Melbourne This Week

By Melanie Host - 06 Mar 2017

We’re already sooo ready for the Labour Day long weekend, but before that, we still have the weekdays to get through. With French films and free coffee in the lineup, it won’t be too much of a drag!

Here are 5 awesome things to do in Melbourne this week.

Wednesday 8 March

Everyone loves free coffee, so help yourself to some Vienna roast that aims to take you to the Austrian city mentally (p.s. there’s even a chance to score yourself a trip to the city itself!). Located next to a 3-metre tall sculpture of neurologist Sigmund Freud by Viennese street artist Nychos, the coffee is provided by boutique roaster Coffee Basics as part of the Vienna Therapy, an art installation event hosted by the Vienna Tourist Board.

It’s finally here! The biggest festival of French films outside of France—the Alliance Française French Film Festival—has rolled into Melbourne and will last here until the end of March. You’ll want to catch the opening night as the AFFFF presents a mesmerising tale titled The Odyssey, plus you'll get a glass of French sparkling with cacao chocolates on arrival. I’ll have two of those, s'il vous plait.

Where: The Astor Theatre

In the spirit of International Women’s Day, Ensemble Offspring is putting on a concert composed exclusively by women. With some of the music inspired by birdcalls, honeybees and Renaissance paintings, this concert is bound to change the way you think about music.

Can’t stand being seen in the same outfit as someone else? Head to CTF Curated, a pop-up retail and mentoring program that supports emerging Australian labels. Don’t miss this chance to connect with designers and find some new favourites.

Setting up at the Australian F1 Grand Prix fan zone, the Food Truck Park will be indulging your sweet tooth with all things dessert from this Thursday evening. There'll be a range of food trucks on offer, including our favourite Nuts About Tella. You can also get a behind-the-scenes F1 experience at the F1 Foodie Hot Lap with cooking classes, photo booths and Supercars on display in addition to a whole lot of food trucks to choose from.
