The world would be a far better place if there were more festivals like Ability Fest, but for now, we can relish in the fact that the country’s most inclusive event is planning a triumphant return this November.
For the uninitiated, behind the festival is Dylan Alcott. The man has worn many hats which include Paralympic Gold Medalist, radio host and public speaker, and now he’s coming together with Untitled Group (Beyond The Valley, Grapevine Gathering) once again for a banger of a party, made for people of all abilities.
This year, Ability Fest will convert Melbourne’s Alexandra Gardens into a fully accessible venue with elevated viewing platforms, pathways, quiet zones, a designated sensory area, companion ticketing and AUSLAN interpreters.
“Ability Fest started as a place to bring friends together to enjoy good quality live music—no matter what your access challenges may be. Today, four years in, we have created an event that sets a new standard in the festival world, and shows others what is possible,” said Alcott.
And aligning to its usual rigorous standard, the line-up is expectedly stacked. The all-Aussie bill features the likes of DJ/Producer darling What So Not, certified vibe-bringer Nina Las Vegas, Cub Sport, Inkrewsive and Motez just to name a few.
Pre-sale tickets will be available from 6pm Wednesday 11 August, while general release will be up for grabs on Thursday 12 August at midday. Prices start at $89.00 with 100% of proceeds going to the 4.3 million young Australians currently living with a physical or non-physical disability via The Dylan Alcott Foundation—nice one.
