Blooming Beautiful! | The Tesselaar Tulip Festival

Oh, how we love Melbourne in the springtime! Safe in the knowledge that winter is behind us and with summer days to look forward to, no wonder Melburnians seem to seem to have an, errr, spring in their step. What better time, then, to celebrate the season's favourite flower, the tulip?

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the Tesselaar Tulip Festival, held in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges from September 12th, showcases the tulip's beauty and history. To keep you on your toes, this flower fest will mix it up with different cultural themes each week.

Want to know more? Here's our guide on what to expect each week – get your clogs on people, we'll see you there!

Turkish Weekend | September 13th – 15th

I bet you didn't know the tulip was originally from Turkey right? Neither did we! Presented by the Australian Turkish Cultural Platform, Turkish Weekend promises to be a feast for the senses with everything from music and dancing, to traditional food, gourmet treats and market stalls aplenty. Did someone say 'turkish delight'?! Oh yes, we'll definitely be there.

Seniors Week | September 16th – 19th

Aim for 'favourite grandchild' status and take your Nan and Pop to Seniors Week! They can get toe-tapping at the jazz display (or the Dutch barrel organ if that takes their fancy), stock up on knick-knacks at the market stalls, and enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee while you stuff your face with baked potatoes and poffertjes, the delicious Dutch version of pancakes.

Dutch Weekend | September 20th – 22nd

Wooden shoe know (terrible pun, sorry!), the Tulip Festival is also hosting a Dutch Weekend?! They made clogs cool waaaay before the hipsters did, and this is the weekend to celebrate Holland's many cultural delights. There'll be plenty of activities on offer, but being little piggies, we're most excited about the food – everything from traditional oliebollen, stroopwafels and reifkoek, to gourmet sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes, glorious cakes!

Children's Days | September 23rd – 26th and September 30th – October 3rd

Looking for something to do with the kids these school holidays? The Tulip Festival is just the ticket with plenty to keep the little tackers entertained. If the fields of bright blooms aren't mesmerising enough, the kids will also love the petting zoo, craft workshops, face painting and music performances. To sweeten the deal, all kids will receive free entry.

Food, Wine & Jazz Weekend | September 27th – 29th

Three things we love across three glorious spring days? Now you're talking! Seriously, though, what could be better than being in the perfect spring location, feasting on gourmet food and cheese from local producers and sipping on the region's best beer and wine, whilst listening to the smooth John Morrison and the Moonee Valley Jazz Band? Not much! It's a weekend not to be missed.

Irish Weekend | October 4th – 6th

At the end of the Tulip Festival rainbow is the fun-filled Irish Weekend. You'll have a craic-er of a time sipping Guinness and watching Irish entertainers Red Cat, Knot O' The Gate and the Roving Irish Pipers – hey, you may even want to pretend you're part of the Lord of the Dance cast and join in the Irish dancing!
