MIFF is upon us once again, and just like every year, the program is brimming with the best of both Australian and International cinema. One area of the festival that is typically very popular amongst Melburnians is the food docos that are expertly picked each year, because if there’s one thing we love just as much as our city’s creative arts, it’s our culinary delights. MIFF are accompanying two films, Foodies and Cooking Up A Tribute, with a tasting session for one screening each. The ticket price of $25 will include a special culinary experience, designed by Peter Rowland Catering, as well as glass of Mandala sparkling wine. Dinner and a movie? Don’t mind if we do…
First up, Foodies is a documentary that follows the lives of 5 food bloggers as they traipse around the world in pursuit of gastronomic happiness. If you follow a food blog or two, perhaps you’ll recognise the places and the characters, as we follow the trails of Britain’s Andy Hayler; former model Aiste Miseviciute; Opinionated About Dining's Steve Plotnicki; Perm Paitayawat, aka The Skinny Bib; and Hong Kong's Katie Keiko, from K's Luxe Dining Table. The creations they come across vary from the mouthwatering to incredibly usual, but every dish is a unique piece of art. Foodies screens on August 8th.
The second tasting session will be paired with the documentary Cooking Up A Tribute. Triple-hatted El Celler de Can Roca in northern Catalonia is run by brothers Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca. In an effort to further themselves and their establishment in culinary greatness, they closed the restaurant for 5 weeks to tour South America with their entire kitchen and dining room staff. The mission was to return with 57 new dishes inspired by their travels. The results are breathtaking. Cooking Up A Tribute will screen on August 11th.
