donut-fest

All right you penny-pinching cheapskates, we’re back for another month of getting something for nothing. No need to overturn couch cushions, sell your kidneys or ask Mum & Dad for (another) loan—everything in this list is 100% FREE. Just rock up and enjoy yourself, the way nature intended.

Here’s 19 free things to do in Melbourne in March.

VAMFF

Which stands for Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion festival, just FYI. Obviously most of the uber-exclusive VIP catwalk-type events cost a million bucks, but the festival is running a bunch of FREE activations too. The Festival Plaza at the Melbourne Museum Precinct will be rocking throughout the festival, Stonnington is running its own Fashion Weekend, and you can also check out the free #TrueRadGirl runway on Saturday 10 March. Noice.

Where: Various
When: 1 – 18 March 2018

Water Hole At Newstead

There’s a certain magic about old public swimming pools. Probs all those chlorine-tinged childhood memories and greasy chips with vinegar. Well Newstead is throwing a huge pool bash this month, featuring water-based circus stuff, lilo races, karaoke and all of the foods. Head along for a country-style splashdown. Entry is free.

Where: Newstead Pool, 2 Panmure St, Newstead

Hop Picking At Red Hill Brewery

Moomba Festival

We couldn’t forget Moomba, right? Moomba will be back this Labour Day Long Weekend, turning Birrarung Marr into a screaming maelstrom of kids, sticky fingers, rides, water-skiers and guys like MAFS Troy trying to win stuffed animals for their dates (and failing miserably). We wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Wine Not Rosé Festival

Not to be outdone by the Triennial nextdoor, The Arts Centre is throwing a DJ & Rosé festival over three consecutive weeks this month. Rosé Rosé are bringing rosé in a can, and the bar at Barre will be slinging Melbourne Martini cocktails in jars too. Say goodbye to summer in style.
