The irrefutable sovereign of the dairy kingdom, Gelato Messina, has been making waves (and curls) in Darlinghurst for over a decade. The more recent Surry Hills shop has longer queues than the Bridge Hotel on a Saturday night, and Bondi has been booming since opening in October.
But wait, why are we talking Sydney? Isn't this Melbourne's Urban List? Am I on the wrong site?
Settle down ice cream enthusiasts, because Gelato Messina, Australia's number one gelato destination (voted Australia's best gelato by the Good Food Guide), is setting up shop on Smith Street this Thursday, November 14th.
It may not exactly be ice cream weather right now, but who the heck cares?! When there are 40 droolworthy flavours of creamy, iced perfection of offer (with new concoctions being introduced weekly), what's a little frostbite between friends?
And we're not talking your regular rum & raisin or boysenberry swirl here. Messina favours the indulgent, like poached figs in marsala, salted caramel with white chocolate chip (the number one seller), and apple pie. And my personal favourite, pandan and coconut – oh yeaahh.
Special occasion coming up? Messina has reinvigorated the old school ice cream cake. Seriously, these works of art need to be seen to be believed!
Messina will be scooping up the creamiest, richest, tastiest gelato you have ever laid tongue on, all made from scratch with raw and locally sourced ingredients. All I can say is you'd better be ready for me to push you out of the opening day line.
