What’s a night out without show tunes, a piano and a bunch of random strangers? Not one we want to be a part of, that’s for sure.
If you’ve been thinking lately that your normal weekend bevvies have a bit too heavy on the R’n’B and not enough Do Re Mi, then we’ve got some exciting news for you.
New York's iconic piano bar, Marie’s Crisis, (think: West Village basement bar, cash only, built in 1839 kind of vibes) is coming all the way to Melbourne for one night only, as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
In fact, they're shipping us over two of their all-singing piano-playing entertainers: Kenney Green and Adam Tilford. It'll be their first time ever playing in Melbourne.
"Marie’s Crisis is unplugged and spontaneous. It’s just the crowd, the piano and the showtunes," says event organiser, Gary Nunn. "There’s no set list, no stage, no microphone and no shooshing. Everyone’s welcome to sing their heart out, or just stand and enjoy the musical mavens who know all the lyrics."
The whole thing's going to go down at Murmur Piano Bar (where else?). The setlist will be wall to wall showtunes, ranging from popular classics like Les Mis, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music and Grease, to the cult musicals of Stephen Sondheim.
Personally, we'll be hanging out for some Billy Joel. You can't have a piano without Piano Man, right?
Where: Murmur Piano Bar, 17 Warburton Ln, Melbourne VIC
When: Friday 14 and Saturday 15 September, 7pm-1am

Check out Green Spine. It's gonna be Melbourne's tallest building. Will it eclipse the sun? Only time will tell...
