Meat Lovers, Rejoice! Game, Guts & Off-Cuts Is Coming

Did you look at the last Australian census form and question why there wasn’t a box for ‘carnivore’ under the ‘religion’ section? Well, meat-loving Listers, this is the event you’ve been waiting for. Two of our city’s expert chefs—Tim Sweeney from epic foodie pub The Last Jar, and Dave Marshall from Middle Park Hotel—are set for a culinary face-off that celebrates all things meat.

In a battle of the roasting trays, BBQ tongs and carving knives, Sweeney and Marshall are going head-to-head in Game, Guts and Off-Cuts, a three-round, six-dish meat feast held at Middle Park Hotel on Thursday 6th August. Each chef will be working wonders with different cuts of meat, which will then be put to the taste test. The eager (and, no doubt, meat-drunk) audience will then vote on the winning meat maestro. Who will be Melbourne’s meatiest MVP? You decide, Listers!

As the title suggests, diners won’t simply be chowing down on standard steak and ribs fare. Each of the chef’s is also challenged to use interesting cuts of meat within each round, so you’ll definitely be trying some more adventurous dishes than you might normally savour as part of your meat fix.

The three-course extravaganza will be accompanied by a selection of beers, and wines to complement each dish. Everything you consume is covered by your ticket price ($130 for all the meat and beverages you can handle?! Count us in!) and, if the food at The Last Jar and Middle Park Hotel is anything to go by, it’s going to be a meat-lover’s paradise.
