This is the third time the guys have made the schlep up the highway. Each year they take over a different venue and put on a grand (and very boozy) showcase spread.
So what can you expect this year? On Friday 12th and Saturday 13th October, head chef Gerard Phelan will be transforming Arteveneta (an industrial studio space in Prahran) into Melbourne’s hottest dining ticket.
We’re talking an uber-exclusive five-course degustation, with carefully matched Montalto wines (including the famous 2016 Single Vineyard “Eleven” Chardonnay. The food will all be sourced from Montalto’s home turf in Red Hill—most of it lightly singed with Phelan’s signature ‘subtle flame’ technique.
“We’re about to enter our most exciting period in terms of estate grown produce”, says Phelan, “so expect to see a stunning array of vegetables grown by Julie and our chefs. We’ll be setting up a wood fire out the front of Arteveneta to stay true to what we do at Montalto.”
The menu is a nuclear-level secret, but chef Phelan has already let one dish slip: fermented shiitake mushrooms with smoked eel & potato bread, spigarello and crème fraîche'. Yeah, we knew you’d be keen.
Where: Arteveneta, 37 Thomas Place, Prahran
