11 NYE Events Worth Going To

By Peter Tzimos
23rd Dec 2016

With the inevitable madness of Christmas fast approaching, you’d think that Melbourne would settle down for a little bit just to catch its breath.

But New Year’s Eve in Melbourne this year is set to be spectacular, with a heap of exciting ways for you to celebrate the end of what has been a whirlwind 2016. I hope you didn’t hope for a quiet, in-bed-by-10 kind of night because this one is going to be big.

New Year’s On The Waterfront

Arbory Bar and Eatery is going to be the home of the most up-close-and-personal NYE celebrations this year, with the riverside bar hosting a night of great food, music, and of course fireworks. With oysters, charcuterie, truffle, crab, and burgers roaming around the huge venue all night, you’ll be breaking your 2017 new year’s fitness resolution before the year even begins. Tickets for the night are available here.

Wax’o Paradiso at Pontoon

Melbourne’s premier psychedelic party is taking over the newly rebuilt Stokehouse precinct to head into the New Year, with Pontoon on St Kilda beach hosting non-stop festivities until 1 am. With free food and drink for early birds, and the 18-metre-long bar pumping out whatever you like all night long, this is set to be one crazy party. Tickets come in at $80 and include entry and finger food, as well as a great spot to view the fireworks on the water. Book your tickets here.

A New Orleans Carnival Extravaganza

Our good friends at Le Bon Ton are inviting you all to come and celebrate NYE in Collingwood this year, with a New Orleans carnival like no other. You can expect all-you-can-eat American backyard BBQ from 7pm, including Le Bon Ton signature dishes, as well as five hours of drinks including cocktails, spirits, beer and wine until midnight. Now unfortunately tickets are all sold out, but the venue is open to the public from midnight to 6am with a DJ to dance the night away.

Get Loopy On the Rooftop

Loop Roof is hosting a stylish night in their iconic rooftop garden this NYE, so settle in for the night and enjoy some of the best sprawling views of the city as it lights up at midnight. With a very Melbourne espresso martini on arrival, a build-your-own-burger station, and the cracking open of a 15L Nebuchadnezzar of G.H MUMM at midnight, this will surely make for a special evening in the bright lights of the CBD. Earl-bird tickets are sold out, but you can still squeeze in a few spots here.

A Little Italian New Year’s Eve

Flinders Lane bistro Terra Rossa is having a bit more of an intimate gathering to start 2017 with, celebrating the year with a three-course meal, and matching wines. Say ciao to a bright new year with a Tanqueray cocktail and a charcuterie deli selection on arrival, as well as live entertainment from 7 pm. Only a short distance from the Yarra River fireworks, you can appreciate the beauty of Melbourne while full of delicious Italian fare (and maybe walk a bit of it off). Tickets are $135 per person and can be booked here.

Hop Into 2017 With A Night Garden Festival

Melbourne’s newest bar Hopscotch is making even more of a mark on 2016 with their Night Garden Festival celebration. Taste some of the best bar food and drinks over five hours, with small bites, grazing dishes, nitro ice-cream, roving treats, as well as tap beers, cocktails and slushies throughout the night. There’s also going to be live entertainment and, of course, spectacular views of the fireworks on the river at midnight. What are you waiting for? Grab your tix right here.

Masquerade Away at EBC

European Bier Café has definitely thrown some amazing parties before, and this NYE is no exception. With a massive seven-hour drinks package, the celebrations kick off at 7pm, with a cocktail when you get there, canapés, pizzas, and 15 kinds of beer and cider. Dress to impress, with a masquerade theme taking over a huge four levels of entertainment. Tickets are $145, and give you access to the party until 2am. Look here for more information.

Celebrate With A View 89 Floors Up

Eureka Tower is planning an unforgettable New Year’s Eve at Eureka 88 and 89’s 2016 NYE Celebration. Exclusive views of the city, live entertainment, and a spread of great food and beverages throughout the night are all available to the avid partygoer. With a 360-degree view of Melbourne, 300 metres in the air, don your party shoes and your Sunday finest, and dance like the entire city is watching. Tickets start at $210, with tickets up for purchase here.

Wet Your Whistle At Waterslide

For those of you not wanting to fork out the big bucks this New Years, Southbank’s Waterslide Bar is hosting an amazing NYE party—coming in at just $45 a head. Look forward to a cocktail on arrival, light canapés, a house DJ, and one of the best seats in the house to view the fireworks come midnight. More info is available here.

New Year Is Coming

For a party that’s a little bit out of the ordinary, Robarta is hosting a Game of Thrones themed NYE celebration this year! Come dressed as your fave Lannister, Stark, Targaryen—or even one of those really creepy Children of the Forest (hey, we don’t judge). There’ll even be an Iron Throne, as well as finger food, dancers, performers, and DJ’s across two floors. With 12 hours of entry, you even have time for an outfit change (before and after Arya anyone?). Grab your tickets here.

New Year’s Eve Sleepover

Now this one is a little bit of a sneaky mention, because it’s not really an event for you—it’s for your pupper or doggo. We all know how much our pups can suffer from the loud noises and bangs of fireworks, so this NYE drop your dog off at Diggidy Doggy Daycare for a night of movies on the projector, comfy beds, night lights, and music during the fireworks. Celebrate the New Year with a little bit more comfort this year, with everything you need to know and more available here

Too busy looking forward to 2017 to celebrate the year that has been? Look forward to the new year even more, with these epic holidays you need to start planning now!
