Melbourne’s food truck scene stacks up pretty bloody well with cities around the world, but we wouldn’t have any of it if it wasn’t for Raph Rashid.
If you’re not familiar with the name, you’ll definitely be familiar with his venues. Rashid kicked everything off with the Beatbox Kitchen food truck which can be seen around the streets of Melbourne and festivals all over the place. Then came Taco Truck, and bricks and mortar shops for All Day Donuts, Juanita Peaches, and Beatbox Kitchen.
This weekend Rashid will be flipping burgers for 24-hours to help raise much-needed funds for Youth Support + Advocacy Service (YSAS), and he’ll be joined by other Melburnian heavyweights who’ll be manning the till along the way.
FLIP-A-THON will feature a limited menu that includes Raph burgers, cheeseburgers, Shroom burgers, and Vege supremes alongside a range of drinks.
Hitting the till over the 24-hour period will see the likes of Pat Nourse (creative director of Melbourne Food & Wine), Lucy Feagins (founder of The Design Files), Casey Foley (skateboarder), Jimmy Hurlston (Easeys), Matt Skinner (wine expert, and well-known illustrator (and Raph’s wife) Beci Orpin.
There’ll be live music throughout FLIP-A-THON with tunes from DJ Chris Gill, Mzrizk, and more.
"As both a father and a business owner, supporting youth mental health is something which very important to me. YSAS has a range of programs including youth outreach and Headspace which offer great services to young people seeking support. By running FLIP-A-THON, it's my time to make a difference and to do something that can have direct effect," says Raph.
If you can’t make it to the event there will be a donations hotline running throughout.
