It’s time to take a dive under those crusty couch cushions because enjoying a few winter brewksies won’t set you back much more than a canteen Zooper Dooper this winter in Melbourne.
Carlton-based watering hole, Shaw Davey Slum, has recently dropped the prices on their house pots to a buck a pop between 5-7pm EVERY SINGLE BLOODY DAY. You can even chuck a parma on your tab for only $12 too.
Taking over one of Melbourne’s old Irish institutions, The Shaw Davey Slum is relatively fresh on the bar scene, however, it’s had locals up in arms (and pots in hand) since it opened its doors in 2014 and started palming parmas off for no less than a tenner. Since then, the prices have stayed very much student-friendly, making it one of the most popular uni bars in the area.
You’re probably thinking, “they must be flogging their beers for $12 a pot outside of Happy Hour to even break even”. Well, you’re wrong. When beer pots aren’t $1 between 5-7pm every day, they’re $2. Cider pots are also $3, spirits are $6, cocktails are $8, pizzas are $5 and buffalo wings are $1. And as if that isn’t enough to lay a sleeping back by the bar and move in, you should know that on Mondays it’s $12 fish and chips, on Tuesdays it’s trivia and $12 pies, on Wednesdays it’s $12 parmas, on Thursdays it’s $12 rump steaks, on Fridays it’s $12 cheeseburgers and the weekends are reserved for live DJs and footy matches on the telly.
Basically, it’s a poor man’s paradise and it’s open every day of the week. Cheers to freakin’ weekday.
