Remember the days when we had to shiver through six months of darkness before seeing the twinkly lights of the Queen Vic Night Market? Yeah, that sucked. So the Powers That Be decided to create the Queen Vic WINTER Night Market, and the good news is it’s back on this year, with an all-new line-up and quote-unquote “raging open fires”. Sounds super safe.
This year’s theme is ‘Fire and Lights’, and it’s going to feature a brand new lighting concept, designed by John Fish. Think complex installations, hazy smoke and violent pink neon as far as the eye can see. More importantly there will also be the usual assortment of 50+ design stalls and 30+ gourmet food vendors, all serving the sort of rib-sticking fare you want when Melbourne turns on the penguin-blasting Antarctic AC.
For the first time at the Night Market, Movida’s Paco’s Tacos will be cooking chargrilled corn on the cob, and there’ll even a Bone Broth stall, courtesy of Those Girls. If you need us though, we’ll be hanging out with the guys from That’s Amore, watching them toss pasta inside a huge Parmigiano wheel. ReWine and Coldstream will also be on-hand, dishing up spicy mulled wine and hot cider over a bubbling cauldron. Winter is coming all right, and we're pretty bloody happy about it.
