If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably been a bit hermit-like over the past few months. But we say “No more!” With just one more measly month of winter to get through, we reckon it’s time to venture back into the outside world, Listers. And with such an awesome bunch of things to do in Melbourne this August, you’d be mad to waste four perfectly good weeks glued to your couch.
Without further ado, here is the hotly anticipated August MINI Edition—our edit of the top 10 things to get off your behind for this month!
10. Awesome Pizza at A25
Here at The Urban List HQ, we’re on an eternal quest for Melbourne’s best pizza. Recently, we stumbled across some hot contenders in South Yarra’s A25 Pizzeria. The venue itself is super quirky, the waiters’ charm knows no bounds and the pizzas are oh-so-good. With next-level toppings like licorice shavings and fig, we’re also pretty obsessed with their Hot Dog Pizza, complete with frankfurts and hot chips. Yes, really.
9. International Beer Day
We don’t need much of an excuse to crack open a cold one on a Friday, regardless of the weather. But seeing as though Friday 7th August is International Beer Day, it’d pretty much be un-Australian not to get involved.
8. All the Donuts at Ascot Food Store
We’ve been salivating over the syringe-filled beauties doing the rounds of Instagram, so just had to hotfoot it to Moonee Ponds to check out the doughies at Ascot Food Store. And boy, were they worth the drive! Listers, it’s time to play with your food.
7. Hanoi Hannah Does Brekkie
Everyone’s favourite Vietnamese hawker joint in Prahran, Hanoi Hannah, is now doing brekkie on Sundays. Whether you opt for the pork belly and egg banh mi or breakfast pho, make sure you order the epic Bloody Mary, garnished with three spring rolls!
6. Melbourne Spring Fashion Week
It’s almost time to whip out the razor and prepare those pasty pins for balmier days. And where better to plan your spring wardrobe than at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week? There’s a week (duh) of events that are open to the public, but we’re most excited about Vogue’s Fashion Night Out heading to Aus for the very first time, in conjunction with MSFW. Get ready to shop ‘til you drop, Listers! MSFW runs from 28th August to 4th September.
5. Smith & Deli Brings the Vegan Vibes
No, we’re not vegan either. Hellllll to the No! But that doesn't mean we’re not obsessed with new New-York-Jewish-style vegan deli, Smith & Deli. The babes from Smith & Daughters have done it again, reinventing vegan with a sexy, mouth-watering twist. Think reubens, salmon and cream cheese bagels, cheesymite scrolls and donuts—all made without an animal product in sight.
4. Passion Pit at The Forum
Get ready to rock out on 21st August as Passion Pit do a turn at The Forum. Massachusetts’ most-loved indie pop sensation + iconic Melbourne music venue = one hell of a must-see gig.
3. Degustation at Lûmé
We are quite literally dying to get a table at the hottest new degustation destination in town. Serving a whopping 18 courses over 3 hours, Lûmé is the most exciting thing to hit Melbourne’s fine dining scene this year. With a fitout as beautiful as the food, expect the unexpected from Head Chef Shaun Quade.
2. New Opening: Leonard’s House of Love
We are HUGE fans of the awesomeness that is the Sweetwater Inn. So when we heard about their new sister venue (or should that be brother?) Leonard’s House of Love, we were experiencing all the happy feels. One visit to this 70s-woodcabin-esque South Yarra dive bar and one serve of fried chicken and pickles and we were callin’ it true love.
1. Fat Feeds at Truck Stop Deluxe
Werribee just got a whole lot tastier with the arrival of the calorie-laden Truck Stop Deluxe. Masterminded by the crew behind Easey’s, Grand Trailer Park Taverna and Dandenong Pavilion, expect epic burgers, boozy shakes and donut ice-cream sandwiches. Where’s my lift?!
Can't wait to hit up all the events this month? Well why not WIN somethin' while you do?! Simply Instagram and tag @miniaustralia and #theminiedition when you are at any of the 10 August events, and you’ll be in the draw to win Sunday breakfast for four at Hanoi Hannah (to the value of $150)!
