Vietnamese Cheap Eats at Twee’s Hut

By Ella Pleasant - 24 Nov 2013

City workers, it's time to wave goodbye to the weekday food court lunches of your culinary past. Say sayonara to that soggy panini, adios lemon chicken, because there's a new kid on the block offering up fresh, tasty Vietnamese cheap eats…all for under $10.

Having just opened its doors near the corner of Elizabeth and Little Collins, Twee's Hut is fast becoming a lunchtime favourite with its low prices, speedy service and really ridiculously good food. There have been queues snaking out the door since opening to prove it!

The mouth-watering menu takes you on a trip through Vietnam, with propaganda-inspired Grenades (rice paper rolls) and Bombs (vermicelli noodle bowls, or bún) packing a serious flavour punch. Pick your weaponry, and pack it with everything from BBQ pork to tasty tofu, or (my personal favourite) crackling roast pork and avocado (seriously). Freshly made Captain Baguettes, otherwise known as bánh mì, come lathered in pâté, loaded with coriander and filled to the brim with cold cuts, pork meatballs and everything in between.

Of course, what would Vietnamese cuisine be without pho? Diners can thank owners Ricky and Twee's parents for the slurp-worthy Pa Pa Pho and lip-tingling Ma Ma Spicy Beef. The menu's signature dish, Twee's Soul Bowl, is a winning combination of egg noodles, dry rice noodles, pork, prawn, quail egg, lettuce, fried shallots, spring onion, coriander and peanuts. Make sure you pile on the chilli for a lip-numbingly good feed.

Cool down your mouth with one of Twee's Fru-G Lifters: the cold-pressed, 100% natural juices come in delicious combos such as Red Machine (apple, beetroot, carrot, pineapple) and Inner Calm (watermelon, pineapple, pear, ginger). Twee's Hut donates a portion of juice profits to charity, so you know that every delicious, nutritious sip is doing yourself (and others) a bit of good.

After something sweet? Desserts change daily and include traditional offerings such as sweetened red beans. Best of all they come free with mains. Oh free dessert, you know the way to my heart!

Head to the Hut for tasty, cheap eats and Twee hospitality.
