Surviving winter in Melbourne is no mean feat, but for all the frosty mornings, rainy days and unpredictable weather patterns, there's a heap of interesting events that give the coldest season a touch of cool. We've rounded up our Top 5 winter activities to warm the soul.

Rug up or strip down; just make sure you match the get-up to the right activity!

Ice Skating at Medibank Icehouse

Whoever said you have you to leave Melbourne to really enjoy winter obviously never visited Medibank Icehouse. Book for a game of group hockey, or drop by for a casual glide at Australia's largest indoor ice-skating centre. Boasting two rinks, beginners can try the free 15-minute skate lessons, while seasoned professionals can enjoy some après action at St Moritz Bar. A session on the ice will set you back $25 (with skate hire), with discounts for children and family fares. The Docklands location is open 7-days-a-week, 364-days-a-year!

Curling at Medibank Icehouse

For something a little different, Curling takes a game of lawn bowls and throws it on the ice! Over 500 years old, the Olympic sport combines strategy and skill as players attempt to slide eight 20kg granite 'stones' closest to the 'centrehouse'. It's game on for young and old! Get your colleagues together for team building with a twist.

Hot Springs in Mornington Peninsula

For a pleasant weekend trip, make a break for it, strip down and heat up with a dip in one of eight pools at the Peninsula Hot Springs. A favourite for locals and international visitors, it's easy to spend the whole day here, even when it's raining! The pools heat up to a maximum temperature of 42 degrees, so get ready for a warming surprise! We recommend hiring a cosy robe for those freezing runs between pools. Absolute bliss from just $25, just an hour and a half from Melbourne.
