Round up the troops—the weekend is here and it’s time to start planning if you want to get to all these wicked events! There will be no time wasted during this jam-packed weekend full of all of the good stuff, with epic theatre, a brand-new champagne and delicious dinners all on the agenda. Without further ado, here’s your handy guide to everything to do, see and eat this weekend in Auckland.

Dinner in the Sky

Be one of the first in the country to experience this unreal dining experience—suspended 50 metres up in the sky! Taking the world by storm, Dinner In the Sky will be one of the most iconic pop-ups of the year. Take in the views of Auckland Harbour like never before, and feast on a gastronomic treat. You could be treated to lunch by Chef Fraser Shenton of Fish, sip on cocktails by Bellini of the Hilton Hotel, or brunch away your morning—the sky’s your limit!

The Merchant of Venice

Pop-up Globe is back and better than ever, presenting you with one of Shakespeare’s classics The Merchant of Venice. Already deep in debt to his best friend, Bassiano requires one more loan to woo and win the wealthy heiress Portia, unaware that when the due date comes to repay the debt, he will be gambling for his life! Full of wit, drama and disguise that Shakespeare has become legend for, this is based on the performance tradition going way back to 1614, performed by the Buckingham Company—an all-male company of actors and musicians around the world.

It’s the starting weekend for this timeless tragedy put on by the masters of Shakespeare. Presented to you by the Pop-up Globe’s Southampton’s Company, this classic explores the darkest corners of the human mind, set in a world where the supernatural comes to life and the quickest way to the top is murder. Darkness, chaos and conflict will unfold through one of Shakespeare’s most haunting tragedies. Bringing together male and female actors and musicians, Southampton’s Company is Pop-up Globe’s resident mixed company and are ready to transport you 400 years back in time to see this evocative play in the space for which they were written.

Bug Lab Lates

Cocktails, street foods, and… bugs? Yep, you heard that right—this adults only (a.k.a kids at heart) event starts with a complimentary cocktail and a fabulous selection of Auckland street food faves with live entertainment. Then enter the magical world of Te Papa and Weta Workshop’s thrilling science exhibition, discovering the genius of bugs bound to fascinate and delight even the harshest bug critics and scaredy cats!

Labyrinth: Friday Films

It’s that time of the week again for a wonderful flick under the stars. This weekend you’ll be treated to one of the all-time classics, Labyrinth! This celebration is all about good food, good liquor and the best party. What would pride parade be without some queens gracing our presence?! Car Boot Sale of the Future

Silo Park is back at it again to make our weekends epic! This Sunday brings a car boot sale, well, without the cars. It’s a guaranteed fun-filled afternoon for any market lover with something for everyone. Some of Auckland’s finest DJs will be providing the tunes, and Auckland’s fave food trucks will be providing for your belly. The food lineup includes the best from Kraken Crumpets, Temaki Truck, The Marilyn and more!

Sabato Market Day

Quickly becoming a hot favourite in Auckland’s food truck events, Sabato Market Day knows how to please an Aucklander! With loads of food truck faves on board like Very Good Dumplings, Wise Boys Burgers, Philippe’s Poutine, Double Dutch Fries, Temaki Truck and so many more, your stretchiest pants will be put to the test. Cheesemonger Calum will also be doing a Parmigiano cracking at 12:30pm which is not to be missed—it’s cheese! There will also be in-store specaisl and tastings from all your fave New Zealand suppliers for a feast of epic proportions.
