It’s a loonnngggg weekend! Yep, Labour Weekend is upon us and, if you happen to be sticking around Auckland town, you won’t be bored with so many things to do! So in-between getting your Halloween costume for next week, make sure to hit up any one of these events Auckland is putting on.

All Weekend

Priscilla Queen Of The Desert | The Civic

If you see one show this year—indeed this decade—then make it Priscilla. Based on the Oscar-winning hit movie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert tells the tale of three drag artist who hop on board a shiny silver bus to go west (life is peaceful there). With all your favourite tunes, mind-boggling and colourful costumes and fantastic lighting, the show will pull you in and take you to another world for a couple of glorious hours. Shake your groove thing and get to it!

Armageddon | ASB Showgrounds

It’s the biggest Armageddon event of the year, and thousands will be heading along to the ASB Showgrounds this weekend for a day (or more if you’re super keen) for cosplay, gaming and geek heaven. The stellar line up includes Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future, Katana from Suicide Squad, James and Oliver Phelps from Harry Potter and even the princess from Disney’s Aladdin. Star trek your way along!

Under Milkwood And Shylock  | Herald Theatre

Guy Masterson brings two solo shows to Herald Theatre this weekend with Under Milkwood and Shylock. Celebrating a day in the life of a small Welsh seaside town, all 69 colourful inhabitants are hilariously recreated in Under Milkwood. And, if you just can’t get enough of Guy Masterson, then make sure you grab tickets to his other solo show, Shylock.

Don Juan | Aotea Square

If the idea of love at first sight is your thing, then head along to Aotea Square this weekend for a Don Juan. With a short run time of only 20 minutes, audience members will help the five performers tell this short and funny show.  

Lucinda The Cactus Girl | The Basement

If cacti are your thing (and why wouldn’t they be?) then don’t miss Lucinda and the Cactus Girl at The Basement this weekend. Merging puppetry, clowning and songs, Lizzie Morris stars in this show that explores the absurdity of the mind.

Whau Arts Fest 2016 

With seven projects spanning 24 hours, Whau Arts Fest plans to be a non-stop arts festival unlike any other. The opening ceremony kicks off this Friday with musicians, perfomers and a line-up of killer food stalls. Following on from the opening, there will be tastings, community based projects, epic food and a whole lot of creative diversity. With so much going on, it's a must-see this weekend! 

Thursday 20th October

Sunset Yoga With Bikes And Bends | Viaduct Events Centre

End Thursday the right way and join Bikes and Bends for some sunset yoga at the Wynyard Quarter. Bikes and Bends focus on breath, body and mind and practice the Hatha style of yoga, which is perfect for beginners.

Friday 21st October

Haunted House Party | Victoria Park

Halloween is on its way, and Monarch Entertainment and Be Good are kicking off the creepiest night of the year early with a Haunted House Party at Victoria Park. Taking over the old 80’s style house, this party promises to be the wildest Halloween pre-party of the year. With bass legend, Oski headlining, and a special guest from Australia set to join the fun. Save the date because things are about to get spooky.

The Great Dog Morning Tea | Waiatarua Park

Why should humans have all the fun? Head along with your best friend to Waiatarua Park this Friday morning from 10 until midday where Kiwis for kiwi have teamed up with Jimbo’s Pet Food for The Great Dog Morning Tea. Yep, there will be morning tea for you pooch, spot prizes and you could even win free dog food for a year!

Saturday 22nd October

George FM Presents Whips N Spurs | Ellerslie Racecourse

It’s that time of year again! Yep, racing season is upon us and this Saturday get dressed in your finest and head along to the Ellerslie Racecourse where there will be fine food and even finer French Champagne to kick off the season at George FM Presents Whips n Spurs. 

All Blacks Vs Wallabies | Eden Park

Cheer on our boys in black, set to take the world record for the most wins in rugby in a row. The game may be a dead rubber, as the Bledisloe is safely away in the trophy cabinet for another year, but there is still plenty at stake as our old foes from across the ditch try to take a win at Eden Park for the first time in over 30 years. Get down to Eden Park and get cheering in the All Blacks vs Wallabies game.

Grounded: Battle Of The Arts | Q Theatre

Expect to be amazed this Saturday and Sunday as New Zealand’s finest choreographers battle it out to the theme PROP MASTERS. It will be a full dance and theatre experience with 150 next gen/teens and adults creating their own dance piece in Grounded: Battle of the Arts

Sunday 23rd October

Vintage, Wine And Plant Market | Matakana

For all things vintage, wine and plants head to the Matakana Vintage Market this Labour Weekend. Sample local Matakana wines and chat with the winegrowers, check out the great variety of plants, flowers and seedlings, and rummage through a wide variety of vintage and upcycled goodness. DJ Benny and Stranger In A Strange Band will be playing live music during the day.

A Vegan Affair | Gypsy Caravan

If you’ve yet to visit the pop-up that took over the Street Food Collective, then make this Sunday the day you head along to Gypsy Caravan for A Vegan Affair! Chefs have come up with a menu that will showcase the best of the spring’s produce that is inspired and most of all delicious—and it’s vegan!

Auckland Jaguar Club Display | MOTAT

The Auckland Jaguar Car Club Display returns to MOTAT this weekend. Car lovers will rejoice as they will get the chance to view over 15 luxurious automobiles displayed at MOTAT’s Waitakere Station. Learn all about the development of the Jag’s designs and how the manufacturing process has advanced over the years. A not to miss event for all motoring and Jaguar enthusiasts alike!
