Hurrah—it’s the weekend and we are so here for it! You should be too, ‘cause there’s so much on offer in this wonderful city! Getting excited? You most definitely should be with festivals, musicals, parades and boozy delights all going full steam ahead this weekend. Just to get you doubly pumped we hear the Christmas celebrations are in full swing so it’s time to start ticking off the gift list, and there are some fabulous events this weekend to get you going!

Pleasuredome The Musical

What you’re about to witness is part of musical history! Immerse yourself into the Manhattan streetscape that’s made its home in Avondale. Your journey begins as you’re transported back in time to the heart-stopping, booty-shaking, mythical Pleasuredome nightclub. This is the night you never dreamt possible. Lucy Lawless is Sappho, the sexy diva whose lavish performances have made Pleasuredome synonymous with glamour and excess, and is joined by a 20-strong cast of local and international movers and shakers (literally!) lit up by state of the art light and projection. This story of desire, addiction, greed and the power of love will take you back in time like you never thought possible.

Fraft—Farmers and Craft Market

How have we not demanded this earlier?! Bringing two of the very best weekend activities to Kingsland, support your local makers, bakers and candlestick creators—all while earning a reputation as this year’s best Chrissy pressie giver! There will be a selection of hand-crafted, locally grown and ethically sources goods to choose from, and make sure you bring an empty stomach ‘cause there’ll be lots of delish food for sale!

Spookers Christmas Buffet

Dare to do something different for a Christmas celebration that you won’t forget—even if you want to. New Zealand Communities Football Cup 

This weekend, Aucklanders are in for a treat… it’s the New Zealand Communities Football Cup (NZCFC)! Celebrating cultural diversity through the common love of sport, this event will include over 1,000 regional football matches with teams from Argentina, Somalia, Colombia and more, who will be competing for the national title. The event will be located at Centre Park in Mangere, and is family friendly, with fun and free events for kids to be involved in throughout the day. This is an awesome opportunity for Kiwis to have fun whilst supporting ethnic diversity in New Zealand. Cheers to that!

It’s Grangers fifth birthday and it’s time to party! The waterfront restaurant is the place to be this Saturday night as they throw a birthday bash to remember. Mr & Mrs Haines will be providing the tunes as you (and your squad) party on the sun-drenched terrace. The celebrations also coincide with the final weekend of their month-long rosé festival. Yep, it’s your last weekend to get amongst rosé ice-blocks, frozé and rosé tasting paddles. Don’t miss out, you rosé lover you!

The Original Gypsy Fair

For over a quarter of a century this fair has been travelling New Zealand and its back in West Auckland! Watch world-renowned glass blower Geoff Brunker skilfully transforming molten glass into works of art, get inked or pierced (or both!), tick off the Christmas list with some handmade soaps, balms, oils and soy candles! Of course, they haven’t skimped on the fairground food with an abundance of burgers, cakes, candyfloss and dangerously addictive fudge! The kids will be kept well-entertained as they run wild through the obstacle course, face painting, body art, old school toys and live music for everyone to enjoy.

Tap Takeover

The Chamberlain’s Tap Takeover is back for a cratft beer showdown in a cracking fourth round! Who wil be your pick? European brews with a Kiwi twist from Deep Creek Brewing Co.? Or Gisborne’s worst kept secret Sunshine Brewery? Vote for your favourite beer over a beer or three in this battel of the pints! You could even add to the party with the legendary Beast Feast, with this month’s version loaded with whole confit duck, Toulouse sausage, dauphinoise potato, beef bourguignon pie and a tart to top it all off!

Giving a platform for young local creatives and makers to showcase their products, get amongst this tiny market that packs a punch! The final_final creative clubhouse opens its doors and transforms into your one-stop-shop for this year’s festive gift-giving. In its sixth instalment, you’ll find an array of arts, prints, zines, candles, cards, accessories, Christmas decorations and more! You’ll be well-looked after with free coffee, tea and snacks and craft activities to get in on the action!

Henderson Christmas Festival

Promising to be bigger and better than what you’ve seen before, head along to this FREE event for some family Christmas fun! You’ll find land zorb races, an adrenaline maze, and cannonball blasters. On stage watch hip-hop dance crews do their thing (how do they do their thing?!), kapa haka and musical performances. There’ll be a program of grames for the kids thanks to Sport Waitakere, and even a free sausage sizzle to really amp up the classic Kiwi summer vibes. Get the kids to start on the Christmas cards early at the craft area, and get their faces painted! Of course, Mr and Mrs Claus will be there in full force!

Yep, get excited because Grey Lynn Festival is back for another year of fab food, marvelous music and crafty creatives! Wanderlust 108 and The Yoga Pantry Tribe
