19 Tremendous Things To Do In Auckland This Weekend

Psst! Daylight savings is over! Although this might hit you with a twang of sadness, there just isn’t any time for sulking! This weekend is chock-a-block with some of us Aucklanders fave annual events, as well as some new ones that’ll be sure to get a space in your diary. From wine and food fests (yes, plural!), burlesque, cultural festivals and themed course meals—all we can say is, look out for the insane weekend ahead!

You won’t even feel it getting darker, ‘cause you’ll be too busy in and amongst all of these sensational events on this weekend:

Silo Park Final Weekend

Silo Park season six is coming to an end, but not without an exciting line up to round it up. Friday’s final outdoor movie is ‘People’s Choice’, and voting’s open so it’s all up to you—will it be Jurassic Park, Clueless, The Goonies or Ghostbusters? Saturday will bring a Vintage Market curated by Glory Days with all of the pin-up and rockabilly fashion you could dream of! Sunday’s for the dogs—a dog agility course, on-site vet, but of course lots of treats for you too!

Comedy In Action

Forget sharing Facebook articles and dinner party arguments! Ben Hurley is helping the best way he can—through comedy! Extraordinary comedians will come together for three nights of hilarity to raise money for RainbowYOUTH, Women’s Refuge, and Asylum Seekers Support Trust. With 100% of proceeds from ticket sales going straight to the charities, this is set to be a sidesplitting AND feel-good event.

Tomfoolery—A Silly, Slapstick Burlesque Variety Show

More fun than you can poke a stick at! New Zealand’s best of burlesque striptease, funny talk, mime and song are mish-mashing for this bizarre variety show. Characters like The Princess of Parody, Miss La Vida, the ‘Ugliest Drag Queen in Central Auckland’, Mr Fungus and Lilly Loca will be sure to make a night of it. Dress ups encouraged!

Vintage Festival Dinner

You wouldn’t believe this is just a ferry away! This stellar six-course dinner will be paired with boutique estate grown wines from Peacock Sky and delightful live jazz. Think dishes like honeydew gazpacho, crispy pork belly, and even a cheese course with vineyard grapes and local honey! It's a night before the Waiheke Wine & Food Festival, so wine not make a weekend of it?

Movies In Parks: Disney’s Moana

Moana (the best movie ever), food trucks and the blissful outdoors! Need we say more? Whether it’s your first or ninth (guilty) time watching, this night of Movies In Parks is about to be the best yet. There’ll be cultural performances, face-painting and bouncy castle even before the movie starts. You just have to sea it to believe the hype.

Fashion Sessions

Be part of one of New Zealand’s biggest annual fashion events. Huffer kicks off the four-day event with a ‘Winter Warm-Up’, with food, drink and their new winter gear. There’ll also be Fabric’s vintage market, Trelise Cooper’s grand scale open-air show, a behind-the-scenes show at taylor, and once you’re done mesmerizing, Ostro’s City Terrace will be hosting a Mt Difficulty lounge.

Matakana Wine, Food & Arts Tour

Escape the city bustle and indulge in the best of Matakana. Orakei Market

Forget the crazy lines and frenzy; this one’s a relaxed little market that has everything you need. Locally made eats, artisan crafts and so many treats! You’ll also find fresh produce and vintage gems. There’ll be lots of activities for the little ones too, like craft stations and free Capoeria (Brazilian martial arts!) classes.

Autumn Race Day

Welcome autumn’s milder days with this FREE admission race day for the whole family. Swing ball parks and bouncy castles for the kids, and fabulous bar facilities for you, and of course lots of racing action. There’ll be food on-site, or you’re even welcome to bring your own picnic!

Fullers Waiheke Wine & Food Festival

Roller Derby April Fools’ Game

Auckland Roller Derby’s League’s first game of the season is no joke. Stepping up against Christchurch’s Dead End Derby, this is anyone’s game. If you haven’t seen this fast-paced, no mercy roller-skating sport in all its glory, this is your time. Once they quickly become your fave team to support, they’ll even have merch on sale on the night so you can rep them all the time.
