As you’ve probably heard, the ASB Classic has returned to Auckland and we could not be more excited. The event will be runs from the 1st – 13th of January and is a highlight on Aucklander’s calendars for a reason. Think world-class tennis, scrumptious food and drink, live entertainment and groovy tunes. It sounds like a bit of us, and it’s one that should not be missed. Tennis action, being served up the finest eats and drinks and enjoying the loving touch of the New Zealand sun. Sounds heavenly to us.
Auckland’s arts are coming to life this week, so get ready! Indie-folk group, the Fleet Foxes, are taking over the Powerstation to give us lucky Aucklanders another epic performance. Showcasing their acclaimed third album, Crack-Up, the concert is the first time the group has been in New Zealand in six years. Be sure to check them out when they’re around!
THE MERCHANT OF VENICE
Performed by Buckingham Company, the Pop-up Globe presents Shakespeare’s classic, The Merchant of Venice. The plot tells the tale of a man named Bassiano, who is drowning in debt to his best friend and as the story unfolds he learns that he is gambling with his own life. Kicking off this Tuesday and running across the next few months, the performance will take the audience on a journey of drama and excitement. Get yourself down there ASAP, you won’t regret it.
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
Speaking of pop-up globes, another favourite is back! Auckland’s summer staple, A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be around for another stellar season and you’re guaranteed a good time at this one. Known as Shakespeare’s comedic masterpiece, the performance enchants its viewers by combining a talented cast, a witty script and comedy and romance captured in the beautiful way that only Shakespeare could portray. It’s gonna be a cracker!
THE XX PERFORMANCE
Back for their first show in New Zealand in eight years, The XX is performing at The Trust Arena this January! They have also partnered with PLUS1, so that $1 from every ticket purchased will go towards local LGBT+ programs in each city of the tour.
