The Best Markets In Auckland For 2023

There's something ultra-relaxing about markets. Maybe it’s the fact that you can slowly peruse the stalls without needing to rush through, the friendly faces proudly displaying their homemade goods or the live music and four-legged friends that usually go hand in hand with the whole affair. 

Well, whatever it is, markets are a favourite activity for your weekend mornings and even the nights too—we're looking at you Auckland Night Markets—so we've rounded up a list of all of the best markets in Auckland you need to check out. 

Oratia Plant-Based Market

Head west to check out this wholesome, weekly plant-based offering from The Shed Collective. Set up in a beautifully restored apple shed expect to find fresh flowers, spray-free produce, organic sourdough, hemp oil, dips, hummus, olives, chocolate, chai, Ozone coffee, and abundant ready-to-eat sweet and savoury treats. Count us in! 

When: Saturdays 9am—1pm

Central Flea

We’re not usually fans of fleas, but we’ll make an exception for Central Flea which, in fact, isn’t a tiny biting critter at all but a wonderful vintage-style market. A celebration of Balmoral’s urban diversity, and a link to flea markets the world over, if you’re on the hunt for knick-knacks, last-minute birthday gifts, anniversary trinkets, or just in the mood to rummage, you should definitely make a beeline for this market (it’s in the old Warehouse car park opposite Potters Park). Expect antique dealers, designers and artists, food trucks and, of course, beats to browse to. 

When: Fortnightly on Sundays 8am—1pm

Long Bay Village Market

Taking place monthly, the Long Bay Village Market hosts Auckland’s leading artisans, delivering handmade sustainable goods including clothing, jewellery, toys, plants, gourmet and organic fare, homewares, beauty items, gifts and much more. Peruse the stalls accompanied by live music, creative workshops and fresh food offerings from the Long Bay Village tenants and take home some locally made goodies. Kumeu Market

Taking place on the third Sunday of every month from April to November and the second Sunday of December at the Kumeu Showgrounds, Kumeu Market boasts over 85 stalls. Expect great food, baking and homemade NZ crafts as well as buskers and live music. Forgot your dinero? No worries, you can get cash out here too. Leave your pooch at home as this is a working farm but bring any kids (or kidults) you know for the ponies to ride and copious sheep to view.

When: Third Sunday of the month, 9am—2pm

Waiheke Ostend Market 

If you're lucky enough to be a local on Waiheke Island then you will already know the deets, but if you are keen to hop over to escape the city for a Saturday then the Waiheke Ostend Market needs to be part of your itinerary. Every Saturday morning the market gathers an array of stall-holders selling crafts, food and beverages, produce and all sorts of other homemade goods—all in the most beautiful spot. 

When: Saturdays, 8am—1pm

Matakana Farmers’ Market

Why not make a day out of your market trip and hit up the Matakana Farmers' Market? With a place to sit by the river, take in the peaceful surroundings and enjoy the sun, the Matakana Markets are a firm favourite. The stalls feature Italian-style sausages, locally-brewed beer, fine wines, and organic chocolate, as well as live music and fresh ground coffee to really kick-start your weekend. Don’t forget to take a wander around the town centre to see everything artisan Matakana has to offer.

When: Saturdays 8am—1pm

Parnell Italian Markets 

The beloved Parnell French market consistently voted one of the best markets in Auckland that was sadly disestablished last year has made a triumphant return to the site but this time with an Italian twist! Buono Delicatessen has opened and the markets, under the name of The Parnell Markets @ Buono, are once again running. Expect a brand new delicatessen, café, and retail spaces bringing good food to food lovers across Auckland with specialist products, knowledge, sampling, fresh produce and the bustling atmosphere that La Cigale was always famous for. Magnifico!

Catalina Bay Farmers' Market

Catalina Bay Farmers' Market is an absolute must. Located on the waterfront on Hobsonville Point, Catalina Bay offers not only killer stalls but also a banger of a view. The stalls at this market include fresh produce, coffee, ice cream and everything else you could hope for to start your mornings with a bang. Don't forget to take a stroll around the coastal walkway and check here for everything else to see and do in Catalina Bay.

When: Saturdays & Sundays, 8.30am—2pm

Grey Lynn Farmers’ Market

For a real sense of community, head on down to the Grey Lynn Farmers' Market and take in all the local produce that is so loved by the people of the area. Priding itself on being green, the zero waste market regularly offers gardening and preserving workshops to build up an appetite for all the mouth-watering pastry, coffee and fresh fruit stalls. This one is the perfect market for a tasty breakfast to start your Sunday.

When: Sundays 8.30am—12pm

Britomart Saturday Market

Formerly run by the good people at La Cigale, the Britomart Saturday Market has since taken on a life of its own. With a dizzying array of vendors—which are being added to all the time—expect everything from fresh produce and flowers to coffee, vegan foods, pastries, sweet buns, crepes, juices and savoury snacks. Don't forget your reusable bags.

When: Saturdays 8am—2pm
Where: Takutai Square, Britomart

Auckland Night Markets

Someone holds delicious looking dumplings at Auckland Night Markets.Ever wanted to get your market fix in midweek? Well, now you can at the Auckland Night Markets that are open Tuesday through to Sunday at various locations around Auckland. Bring plenty of coins and those extra roomy pair of pants because there are so many food vendors you'll want to try a little something from all of them. Add to this performances and buskers and you're guaranteed an evening of good eatin' and good vibes. Newly added to the roster on Sunday nights is Silo Park from 4pm-11pm and Silverdale from 5pm-11pm, so go load up on ALL the snacks.

When: Tuesdays—Sundays 5pm—11pm (see their website for exact start times)
Where: Wynyard Quarter, Mt Wellington, Botany, Henderson, Papatoetoe, Pakuranga, Birkenhead.

Mt. Eden Village Craft Market

The Mt. Eden Village Craft Market is a fortnightly market with an amazing selection of hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind gems. Held on the second Saturday of each month right in the centre of the village, stock up on locally-made crafts and chat with the local creatives behind these unique treasures. 

When: The second Saturday of the month, 9.30am—3pm

Parnell Farmers' Market

Held at the Jubilee Building every Saturday morning, grab a coffee and stock up on fruit, veggies, meat, flowers, cheese and other deli produce. Rain or shine, you'll find the Parnell Farmers' Market in the car park in the building that is home to the Parnell Community Library. The perfect place to stock up on your favourite weekend treats. 

When: Saturdays, 8am—12pm

Clevedon Village Farmers’ Market

Take a scenic drive out Whitford way to the Clevedon Showgrounds where you’ll find the Clevedon Village Farmers’ Market. Filled with top-quality local produce, it definitely makes the drive worthwhile. Think fresh fruit, veggies, meats, fish, cheeses, yoghurts, bread, chutneys and more deliciousness to try while taking in the authentic farm set-up. The market is also animal-friendly, with pony rides for younger market-goers. So, grab a coffee and some pastries for brunch and take home some homemade spreads and baked goods for later.

Takapuna Sunday Market

If you are a super-duper early morning person, the Takapuna Sunday Markets was made for you. Every Sunday from six in the morning, the car park along Anzac Street is booming with fresh, organic produce, little gems created by the people of the neighbourhood and of course, food stalls. We're talking French crepes, Chinese dumplings, Vietnamese pho, Indian dumplings and Hungarian flatbread. Takapuna Sunday Markets have seriously got it all and they are not to be missed.

When: Sundays 6am—12pm

Smales Farm Market

The North Shore’s ultimate Sunday market, the Smales Farm Market, delivers fresh, organic and sustainable goods and produce from Auckland’s leading artisans all within the leafy and relaxed environment of Goodside—Smales Farm’s acclaimed dining hub. Expect everything from ceramics to biltong to hot sauce, if you're after a little something to gift, you're sure to find it here.

Coatesville Market 

In the tranquil setting at the beautiful Coatesville Settlers Hall is a rural market destination that has been running since 2007. The Coatesville Market sets out to bring communities together with their offering of local produce and crafts that people from all over Auckland come to enjoy. Home-made goodness and friendly atmosphere in a beautiful setting—what a way to spend your Sunday.

Titirangi Village Market

Take a drive through the Waitākere Ranges to alight at the small but perfectly formed Titirangi Village Market. Held once a month, load up on fresh produce, snack from food trucks and pick up one-of-a-kind knick-knacks from one of the talented crafters.
