Wine and food. Food and wine. The most iconic of duos and heavenly of combos. Wine and food in New Zealand is undeniably good, and here at The Urban List, we just can’t get enough. So, this year we wanna make sure you know where you should be heading for the best of food and wine!
When it comes to treating yourself or heading off on a mini-break, we think that wine and food festivals are a pretty good option. Can you blame us? Here are 10 wine and food festivals you’ll want to hit up this year.
Marlborough Food & Wine
Oh rosé, how we love thee. And, believe it or not, Marlborough produces a crazy 75% of the beloved pink drink! So, who better than to host a legendary Wine and Food Festival than the country’s #1 rosé experts? Taking place February 10th, it sounds like something we want to be a part of. Be sure to get your tickets pronto and make a getaway out of it with the squad or s/o! It’s gonna be top-notch!
Nelson Wine And Food Festival
Celebrate the summer season the right way this year by attending the Nelson Wine and Food Festival. This event, located in a beautiful vineyard, combines a relaxed, family-friendly vibe with gourmet eats and refreshments. Held on February 18th, this day truly is the perfect way to enjoy the wicked New Zealand summer! Plus, there’s a bouncy castle. Yasss.
Hokitika Wild Foods Festival
Fearless? Live life on the edge? Chasin’ those adrenalin highs? Yeah, neither. But still, you could always go to the Wild Foods Festival in Hokitika and feel a bit like you are starring in fear factor. This epic festival is known for featuring the likes of huhu grubs, scorpions, duck heads and fish eyes! On the flip side, (for those of us accompanying the more daring) options include whitebait patties, gourmet sausages, marinated tuna and several other delish eats. On March 10th, be ready to expose your palate, open your mind and get wild, wild, wild!
Waiheke Wine & Food Festival
Hop on the ferry and enjoy the unmissable event in Waiheke this summer! That’s right, we’re talking about the Waiheke Wine & Food Festival. In March, you can revel in all the glory that is the New Zealand sun, kick back with a mighty fine glass of boutique Waiheke wine and bask in the sounds of awesome live tunes. Shades on, being served up artisan eats with a glass in hand…sounds like a bit of us. And surely a bit of anyone who’s well… sane?!
North Canterbury Wine & Food Festival
So, it’s official, March is looking like it’s gonna be pretty damn good. Why you ask? Because on top of all the other awesome things New Zealand has lined up, North Canterbury is hosting an incredible festival. The North Canterbury Wine & Food Festival is set under the oaks in Glenmark Domain and will feature quality live music and of course, plenty of quality wine and food. This festival will make for a very happy belly!
Hawke’s Bay Food And Wine Classic
Fitting to its name, this one really is a classic. Brighten up that mid-winter stretch and be sure to check out the Hawke’s Bay Food and Wine Classic festival! Kicking off June 1st, this festival runs for four awesome weekends and you are pretty much promised a good time. We mean, the event showcases the finest wines and fresh New Zealand produce. Y u m.
Wellington On A Plate
Oh, Welly, what would we do without your annual fest? Wellington On A Plate is an awesome event to take an infamous “mini-break” for! This August, consider rounding up your favourite people, opting for those jeans with a little extra give and making time for this epic food festival. Good vibes, guaranteed.
Wairarapa Wines Harvest Festival
This iconic festival is back! Held at the beautiful, sheltered riverside, known as The Cliffs, kicking off March 10th, the Wairarapa Wines Harvest Festival celebrates good eats and only the highest of quality glasses of wine. The remote location, serene atmosphere and delish dining options make this festival one to rave about. Don’t mind if we do!
Whitianga Scallop Festival
Naturally, when you see the words ‘scallop’ and ‘festival’ in the same sentence, you’re in for a good time. Foodies get ready because the Whitianga Scallop Festival is one not to be missed. And boy, is it a goodie. With top-notch selection of scallops, then for the oysters, Thai food, and all the other mouthwateringly good options, it’s a total yes from us!
Taste Of Auckland
Our beloved Auckland and our favourite pop-up could not be missed from this list. Uh, uh. No, way. Taste Of Auckland quite literally rounds up the best of Auckland’s chefs, eats and refreshments and showcases them in an event that is a guaranteed good time. If it’s anything like the 2017 fest, then you’re in for a treat in November 2018! We are already counting down the days until it comes back around again #foodies.
