By Olivia Atkinson
27th Oct 2015

Auckland, you’ve got one helluva weekend lined up. Alongside the rugby final and Auckland Marathon, there’s a little somethin’ somethin’ that you might have forgotten to chuck in your calendar…

It’s Halloween, people! Time to dust off that pumpkin suit, locate those bunny ears (they’ll look damn cute with your All Blacks tee), or whip up one of these kickass outfits.

Most of us have exceeded the acceptable trick-or-treating age (boooo!), BUT there are still plenty of places to have a hair-raisingly good time this Halloween weekend. From kid-friendly spook shows, to Day of the Dead food feasts and mystery cocktails, we’ve tracked some Auckland’s best Halloween events. Get yo’ freak on!

Dia de los Muertos Weekend

The Street Food Collective, Ponsonby

Why stick to one day of Halloween shindiggin’ when you can do three?! Jose Cuervo and The Street Food Collective are joining forces to bring Auckland it’s very own Day of the Dead. The wicked three-day festivities include a four-piece mariachi band, piñatas and face painting for the youngins’, and Jose Cuervo’s Bloody Marias—a tequila, whisky and beef jerky concoction sure to get you in the freaky spirit.

Mexicilious menus from Bangerritos, The Lucky Taco and Coreano will dished up alongside the sweet creations of The Pie Piper, Goodnight Cocoa, and Sweet Val’s Ice Cream.

When: 30th October to 1st November, from 12pm

Saturday Night Frights

Rainbow’s End, Manukau

Rainbow’s End’s ‘Night Frights’ have been scaring up our Saturdays for the past month, and their final Halloween event is going to top them all. Day of the Dead

Mexico, all locations

Forget the frights, Day of the Dead is all about remembering your loved ones, and there’s no better place to do it than Mexico—the restaurant, that is. Round up the fam this Sunday and head to one on their locations (Ponsonby, Britomart, Takapuna or Ellerslie) for a Mexican banquete ($45 for 4), special margaritas, and $15 sangria carafes. P.S. little ones eat for free!
