Hidden Gems Of Restaurant Month

It’s time to get excited—Restaurant Month is back this month, for its sixth consecutive year. If you’re not one of the lucky people swanning around Europe or the Islands for a mid-winter getaway, then we think you’d enjoy eating your way through Auckland. Cause there’s nothing more comforting than a delicious meal…right? 

While it’s easy to get caught up with the big names and hotspots, we have our eye on some hidden gems of Restaurant Month—the places that tend to go under the radar. If you want to try something new then be sure to check out these secret spots this August.

#1. Operanesian On O'Connell

O’Connell Street, Auckland

For a fabulous evening of Opera, food, fashion and art, visit O’Connell Street. OperaNesian on O’Connell celebrates South Pacific cuisine and culture, with special Pacific-themed menus at participating O’Connell Street restaurants, sophisticated Polynesian inspired cocktails and free on-street entertainment including Operanesian, the Youth Brass Band, Hula Girls, fashion shows and Vakine.

#2. Bollywood Night At IVillage

iVillage at Victoria

Indulge in a night of Bollywood-inspired activities at Bollywood Night at iVillage. Diners will be treated to an energetic, fun and food-filled night, complete with music, Bhangra dance, a DJ and three course dinner.

#3. High Tea & Fashion

Hotel DeBrett

High tea and fashion? Put on your fancy outfit for the must-go-to fashion event of restaurant month. Guests will be entertained with a salon-style show with models meandering through the space as you sip on a glass of sparkling wine and indulge in a delicious array of sweets and savouries. The show is presented by Hudson Boutique. 

Tickets are $75 and include high tea and a glass of sparkling wine. 21st August, 16 – 3pm. 

#4. Wine And Cheese Evening

L’Assiette, 9 Britomart Place

We can’t go past a good wine and cheese night! French inner-city restaurant L’Assiette will host a wine and cheese night, with Negociants NZ wine specialist Nick Hewitt guiding you through the evening. Nick will be pairing each cheese with a delicious wine, whilst pointing out the characteristics of the region and flavour profiles. You’ll be ready for your wine tasting in France in no time. 

Tickets are $45 and include five wine and cheese pairings. 
4th August, 16 and 25th August, 16. 

#5. Free Film—Monterey

Auckland Art Gallery

If you’re on a bit of a budget then this event is the one for you. The Documentary Edge Festival, in association with Auckland Art Gallery, is hosting a free viewing of the film, Monterey. It’s a documentary film about the opening of Grey Lynn café, Monterey. The café is a community-minded establishment from the proud Samoan culture. Tensions boil and the team are forced to re-examine the running of the café when an ambitious chef from the UK is introduced to the mix. 

Free entry, bookings are not taken—seating is allocated on a first come basis. 8th August, 16 – 3pm.
