Costa Rica is a country filled with rugged rainforest, suspension bridges, wild jungle and beautiful sprawling beaches that lead into the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans. It’s also home to one of the most secluded and beautiful eco-resorts, which by no mere coincidence, is working up a whole lot of buzz in the architectural world right now.

Called Kasiiya Papagayo, you’ll find this magical place on the coast of Guanacaste, and as you might have guessed, it boasts some of the most breathtaking vistas which overlook two untouched beaches. The resort itself has been born out of ideas which steam from concepts around conservation and all things sustainable.

Created by French studio AW², Kasiiya is meant to disappear into nature without damaging it. The resort’s entire structure is made without knocking down a single tree and uses all-natural materials, its “Tented Suites” made to mimic actual jungle rafts and serve as their own private wilderness retreats. Each treehouse-like pod consists of large sprawling decks where you can watch magnificent sunsets, a bathhouse with outdoor shower and standalone rustic tubs.

As well as doing all the relaxing here, there’s a whole slew of activities at your doorstep too, including fishing trips, snorkelling, hiking, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, diving and surfing. There’s also a pretty slick wellness centre and spa which offers a whole lot of massages featuring essential oils, plus a “Jungle Gym” sans all the usual weights and treadmills. The outdoor space has a heap of yoga sessions available and other classes which let you reconnect with your body in a new way (so expect to practice monkey walks, crab walks and lizard crawls).
