Labour Weekend is nearly upon us in Auckland (finally!), and we’ve got a feeling that you’ll want to spend it at Auckland's best cafes, restaurants and bars.

Oh hi there, long weekend, it’s been so long we nearly forgot you guys existed. Labour Weekend is nearly upon us (finally!), and we’ve got a feeling that you’ll want to make the most of your Monday off eating and drinking yourself silly.  

Labour Day is the perfect excuse to hit up some Auckland’s best cafes, restaurants, and bars—many of which will be leaving their doors open for your drinking and dining pleasure.

Of course, there’s the inventible dilemma of heading to your fave spot, only to discover that they’ve taken the day off, too. Bugger.

To prevent the above from happening, we’ve armed you with this awesome list of what’s open in Auckland this Labour Day. Get stuck in!


Kick start your Monday Funday at one of Auckland’s best cafes. 

Kokako, Grey Lynn

If you’re looking for cafes open this long weekend in Auckland you have to hit up Kokako. The Kokako crew start serving up coffee and avo sourdough at 7am, right through to 4.30pm. 

Zomer, Takapuna 

If you’re in need of a wee lie in, Zomer opens 9am so you can get your Labour Day layered garlic bacon fix (until 3pm). 

Best Ugly, City Works Depot & Newmarket 

What would Labour Day be without a bagel or two?! Best Ugly are churning your favourites this Labour Day at City Works Depot (7am – 3pm) & Newmarket (8am – 4pm). 

Espresso Workshop Britomart 

Rocking round the CBD this Monday and looking for a café open for business? Espresso Workshop Britomart are open from 7.30am – 4pm. 

Takapuna Beach Café

For gorgeous views and even better food, Takapuna Beach Café is where you want to be this Labour Day in Auckland. Open from 7am – 6pm. 

Mondays Eatery, Kingsland

Treat your body with a wholesome breakfast from Mondays Eatery in Kingsland this long weekend. They’ll be serving beautiful, nutritious goodies from 8.30am to 3.30pm-ish.

The Street Food Collective, Ponsonby

Did someone say Bellinis? The Street Food Collective are running #brunchclub from 11am on Monday, with Fort Greene and Brooklyn Dogs at the helm. Herbie, the cocktail kombi will be quenching thirst with Classic Peach, and Strawberry Puree Bellinis—yum!

Little King, Milford

Milford’s Little King will be in action from 8am – 4pm this Labour Day in Auckland, and with no surcharge! So you can enjoy their famous waffles without forking out the extra moolah. 

Twisted Tomato, Point Chevalier

Open this long weekend, Twisted Tomato’s pea and halloumi fritters will make your Monday (open from 7am – 3pm). 

Queenies Lunchroom, Freemans Bay

Head to Queenies for brunch this long weekend—they’re opening the doors of their gorgeous café at 8am. 

St Heliers Bay Café and Bistro

Treat yo’self to a cheeky long lunch at St Heliers Bay Café and Bistro. Or rock up at 7am for brekkie with a view.

Burger Burger, Newmarket & Ponsonby

A surcharge-free burger? Heck yes! Both Burger Burger Ponsonby and Newmarket will be open this Labour Weekend from 11.30 ‘til late. 

Miss Moonshine’s, Ponsonby

Get your bibs out, folks! Miss Moonshine’s will have the meat slow cookin’ from 11.30am. 

Depot, Auckland City

Do not fret Depot fans, this Federal Street restaurant is set to shuck and serve their normal menu from 11am this Monday.

The Fed, Auckland City 

Next door, The Fed will be putting out poutine, sammies, and their famous pie. 

Miss Clawdy, Wynyard Quarter 

Get your daily dose of fried chicken goodness at Miss Clawdy from 11.30 till late this Labour Day in Auckland.

Hola! Mexican Monday, anyone? Mexico Ponsonby will be open from 12pm with 15% surcharge.

Neighbourhood Brewbar, Kingsland

Kingsland locals, your local watering hole, Neighbourhood will be pouring the Mac’s brews from 12pm.  

The Cav, Freemans Bay

Early birds and rugby fans can watch the Australia vs. Argentina game at The Cav from 5am. Business will carry on as usual from 11am ‘til late. 

The Garden Shed, Mt Eden

We’d happily spend all at Mt Eden’s Garden Shed, and on Monday, you can! Open from 9am for brunch right through for late night Shed Brews.

Bedford Soda & Liquor, Ponsonby  

Bedford Soda & Liquor are all about craft cocktails and meatballs, and this Monday is no exception. They’re open from 12pm ‘til late this Labour Weekend. 

Citizen Park, Kingsland

Round up your mates and settle in for a day of dranks, sunshine (hopefully), and awesome food at Citizen Park (opens at 11.30am). 

The Elephant Wrestler, Takapuna

Open from 11am, The Elephant Wrestler’s beer garden should be pumping. Celebrate your day off with a pint or two. 

Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen, Freemans Bay

Pizza, peeps, and an all-round good time is on the cards at Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen. Head down there at 11.30am this long weekend in Auckland.
