It’s cold, we get it. But how about those bluebird days where it feels like summer if we just sit inside and feel the warmth of the heater? Or, what about those days that are so damn cold you can’t feel your extremities? We here at The Urban List think licking on an ice cream during these chilly month is a great way to live in the now and so we’ve been working our way around these delicious spots to bring you the best ice creams in Auckland—the winter version.

Takapuna Beach Cafe

Takapuna

You can’t go past a café on the shore overlooking Takapuna Beach. This favourite for locals is well known for its delicious ice creams. We’re putting our vote in for the peanut butter flavour.

Milse

Britomart

For those with more decadent tastebuds, try the ice creams from Milse. If you have a craving at breakfast time then Milse has you covered with its new milk and cereal gelato sticks.

Lewis Road Creamery Artisan Ice Cream

Multiple Locations

Lewis Road Creamery first grabbed our attention when it collaborated with our favourite chocolate brand, Whittakers, to create the infamous chocolate milk. Now, Lewis Road Creamery has spread its wings to create artisan ice cream. Think hand-crafted ice cream with a genuine, one-of-a-kind flavour. The first of its range, the rose flavour has been made using pure rose water. If that doesn’t sound dreamy we don’t know what does. You’ll find them all over Auckland.

Ben & Jerry’s

Ponsonby

Kiwi’s rejoice, Ben & Jerry’s now resides on Ponsonby Road, as we’re sure you’ve already heard. Make like the movies and buy yourself a tub to indulge in while spending your Saturday night on the couch watching cheesy love films (we’ve all been there).

White’s & Co

Auckland City

If ice cream ain’t your thing don’t fear, as frozen yoghurt is here. White’s & Co has answered our prayers, serving up all-natural yoghurt made by gourmet dairy brand The Collective. We love how you get to choose your own toppings and no judgement is ever made when you ask for more than three.

The Tannery

New Lynn

Coffee and ice cream go together like love and marriage, cheese and crackers, peanut butter and jam. Rich and creamy, mix them together and they’re a warm and cold, sweet and bitter mixture of heaven.  Head to New Lynn’s The Tannery to sip on some Mt. Atkinson Coffee while eating a heavenly ice cream from Kohu Road.

The Kapiti Store

Auckland City

If you’re an inner-city dweller and looking for a hot spot for ice cream then The Kapiti Store is your go-to. Located on Shortland St in the CBD, you won’t need to venture far from your office. Our vote is the Chocolate & Salted Caramel with Almonds flavour…our mouth is already watering.

OOB Organic Cafe

Matakana

If you want to take a mid-winter roadie up north to some fabulous beaches, we highly recommend visiting Matakana en route to Omaha. All in the name of ice cream of course. Oob Organic Café has some of the best ice cream we’ve tasted, and it’s organic so you can still feel good about yourself. We always go for the almond and honey fro-yo—a definite must-try.

Cheltenham Dairy

Devonport

Whether you live on the Shore or not, an ice cream from Cheltenham Dairy is pretty much an essential experience for anyone wanting to call themselves an Aucklander. Bold and bright, grab a gelato ice cream before heading to Cheltenham’s stunning beach and allow the wind to clear the cobwebs.

Cornwall Park Creamery

Cornwall Park

Treat yourself to a scoop or two of ice cream at the Cornwall Park Creamery after strolling through beautiful Cornwall Park. Don't expect any crazy cones or ellaborate toppings, this ice cream joint specialises in old favourites—perfect for fussy eaters and classic ice cream lovers.

Giapo

Auckland City

Last but certainly not least is our fave gelato spot, Giapo. Situated on Queen St and set up by Giapo Grazioli, it serves up crazy concoctions that you’ll be proud to post to your Insta feed. Giapo is constantly embracing and creating trends, so head along and add some delicious chill to your winter.
