Fremantle is hands down one of the best pockets of Perth. She offers a stunning coastline, loads of culture, delicious food and don’t even get us started on the coffee—what’s not to love?
We’ve teamed up with FJM Property, the in-the-know folk behind Perth’s luxe new development in Freo, Knutsford, to bring you this list of everything you didn’t know you needed to do in Fremantle.
It’s no surprise that the guys behind one of the most sought after developments in Fremantle, as well as the incredible State Buildings, would have their finger on the pulse.
Here are 10 things you didn’t know you needed to do in Fremantle. Time to move? We think so!
Eat Brekky In The Secret Courtyard At Canvas
Tucked away in the Fremantle Arts Centre, Canvas Cafe serves up Middle Eastern delicacies in a stunning garden setting. A legitimate hidden gem, one star of the menu is the signature Red Shakshuka—two eggs poached in a 16-hour tomato sauce, served with fresh herbs, marinated olives, herbed butter and bread.
Get Your Yoga On At The Raw Kitchen
Delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners, healthy life workshops and film nights, what doesn’t The Raw Kitchen do? Adding to their offering, the guys here also teach yoga classes from Monday to Saturday in their mezzanine studio. Time to get downward!
Catch A Flick At Luna On SX
Bringing all of the indie and art-house films to the heart of Fremantle, Luna On SX is the perfect place to go if you’re searching for a more cultured cinema experience. The cinemas are small and very cosy, making for the perfect date night spot. Grab a delicious choc bomb and a lolly bag, sink back into a cushiony maroon chair and enjoy the show.
Get Pampered From Top To Toe
Freo is known for its food, coffee and art, but it’s also home to some incredible hair and spa experiences. Tucked away on High Street in a stunning old building, a visit to Djurra will have you glowing from the inside out. Their customised Aveda facials are out of this world relaxing and their hairstylists are crazy talented. They also do relaxing waxing here, folks!
Spend Up Big On George Street
One of the prettiest streets in Fremantle, George Street is also home to some lovely boutiques that make it very easy to hand over your cold hard cash. Floral Army has all your blooms and indoor plant needs covered, you’ll find a brand new outfit without question every time you visit Savvy Brands and designer homewares and gifts abound at Willow & The Bowerbird. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Crush On The Latest Exhibition At PSAS
When it’s not hired out for a wedding or kitschy event, PS Art Space on Pakenham Street showcases carefully curated collections within its heritage listed confines. Check here for the latest exhibition details and be sure to grab a coffee and a jaffle from the Studio 37 Coffee Bar on the way out.
Hire A Private Function Room At Bread In Common
Bread In Common has to be one of the most popular restaurants in Freo, but we bet you didn’t know that you can hire out a private function space. From $55, $75 or $85 a head (plus drinks) you can hire out the exclusive lounge or mezzanine upstairs or secure a cosy spot at the back of the restaurant in front of the bread ovens.
Drink Wine On Tap At Strange Company
That’s right, wine on tap is a thing and it’s available from the good folks at Strange Company. One of our favourite small bars in Perth, the guys here also make some kick-ass cocktails and stock plenty of boutique beers and ciders, you’ll likely never want to leave!
Take It To The Rooftops At Sweetwater
One of our favourite new openings from last year, Sweetwater Rooftop Bar is worth getting away from the main drag for. With the former head chef of Melbourne’s Gingerboy and the former bar manager from Mechanic’s Institute joining forces, this dynamic duo is whipping up some amazing cocktails and Asian-inspired noms, which you can enjoy with the view from the sixth story venue.
Live It Up In Luxury At The Lodging
Everyone loves a staycation and if you’ve got your sights set on one it better be at The Lodging, one of Perth’s coolest (and most luxurious) guesthouses. Grab some friends and hire out the whole place for a weekend filled with Freo fun. If that doesn’t convince you to move to this neck of the woods permanently, I don’t know what will!
Once you've worked your way through this list, why not hop over Hampton Road to check out Knutsford and see what Freo living is all about.
