13 Amazing Things To Do In Perth This Weekend

By Fran Walker - 31 Aug 2017

Perth has really stepped up its game this weekend and is providing us all with some seriously impressive events. We're talking national hot air ballooning championships, cheese making classes, customised sneaker art and more.

Here are 13 amazing things to do this weekend in Perth.

All Weekend

Spoil your dad this Father’s Day with a huge range of events happening at the State Buildings this weekend. There's a gent's afternoon tea at Petition Kitchen, a Father’s Day BBQ platter at Long Chim, a suite escape for dad at COMO The Treasury and it doesn’t stop there! For more information on what’s happening at the state buildings this Father’s Day click here.

From Friday 1 September until Sunday 3 September, enjoy a showcase of six restored versions of Jean-Paul Belmondo’s (aka Bebel) most well-known films from the 1960s and 70s. Some of the films that will be screened are Weekend At Dunkirk, That Man From Rio and Stavisky. Click here for more information on show times and bookings.

Thursday 31 August

We all love a good drink or two (or three or four...) but now you can test your knowledge on how much your alcoholic mind really knows. Go head to head with the Lefty's staff to win special prizes (and eternal glory). Challenge accepted! Entry is only $5 per person, so start building your team of eight and book your spot now.

Friday 1 September

Jazz Fridays At The Windsor

The Windsor is really upping its party game as of late. First it was Fizzy Fridays—where you can get a bottle of Mumm Champagne for only $40 all day long—and now they’re kicking off Jazz Fridays. This also conveniently ties in with their 4 to 5pm happy hour, just in case champagne isn't your thing. This week they've got The Limelights playing so you can expect some old school train groove swing. Get more info here.

Going out for drinks on a Friday night is always a good idea, am I right? But we can all agree that going to the same bar that's just around the corner from the office every single Friday can get a bit boring. Well, no need to complain anymore because Perth’s first floating bar is here so you can cruise and booze to your heart’s content! Yep, that’s right, a floating bar. It’s free to jump on board and no booking is required, so hop on at Barrack Street Jetty. It departs every 30 minutes from 5:30pm to 10:00pm so you can stay on for one trip or all night long! Click here for more information.

Saturday 2 September

Cocktail Masterclasses At El Grotto

Our pals over at El Grotto have teamed up with Calle 23 to teach you how to create three delicious tequila cocktails. You'll also get some yummy Mexican snacks (so you don't pass out too early on) and a gift bag to take home. Here's hoping there's some tequila in that one! With one session and 4pm and another at 5pm, this might just be the perfect way to kick start your Saturday night. Get more info here.

This Saturday 30 hot air balloons will be filling the sky in Northam—say whaaaa?! Hot air balloon pilots from around the world will be dropping into Northam and the Avon Valley, and festivities kick off at the Northam Balloon Fiesta this Saturday with everything from markets, food, drinks, show bags, carnival rides and a balloon discovery zone. But it doesn’t stop there, a Balloon Glow is also happening in the evening accompanied by music and fireworks. Less than a 90-minute drive from Perth and on until Saturday 9 September, you’d be crazy to miss this experience. For flight times and more info click here.

HyperLuxe has teamed up with local artist Handbrake Art to customise the best selling white Cotu Classic sneakers by iconic Italian brand Superga. Handbrake Art has devised three unique designs you can choose from—rose, heart and evil eye—and they come complete with your choice of initials on the heel for just $140. Orders must be placed by Thursday 31 August (that’s today folks!) and will be available for collection from the store, where you will also get the chance to watch Handbrake Art paint shoes live all day! Place an order here, or you can email or call the store, just make sure you do it today!

There’s a new gym in town and they are welcoming anyone and everyone to their open day to come and experience what Athlete X is all about. You will get the chance to meet new people, enjoy fresh barista made coffee all morning, and the best part? There will be a massage therapist! Uhh yes! For more information click here.

We all know there’s nothing better than cheese and wine (name a more iconic duo…I’ll wait) and now you can learn everything on how to make feta from talented cheese connoisseur Scott Broad (yes, these people really do exist). After indulging (ahem, overindulging) in cheese platters and tastings of Entopia Wines' delicious drops, at the end of the four-hour workshop, you’ll have your very own feta cheese to take home and the opportunity to buy bottles of that delish wine at a discounted price! To secure your spot click here.

Perth Hills first wedding fair is here! If you’re a bride, a groom, or just in love with all things weddings, then this is definitely where you need to be this weekend. Meet industry experts who know just how to make your dream wedding happen (go hard or go home, right?), get some new ideas, inspo, and all the info on everything you need to know about planning a wedding. Click here for more information.

Sunday 3 September

Perth’s third annual Reclink Community Cup is back this weekend for a fun day of footy, music and beer, all for a good cause. The cup celebrates Australia’s music and community broadcasting sectors while raising funds to help Reclink Australia provide sporting and art opportunities for disadvantaged Australians. This fun-filled day is also a great way to spend the day with your dad, it’s father’s day after all. With pre-sale tickets from just $5 and kids under 15 free, what’s stopping you?! Get your ticket here.

Bestival Pre-Party At Nevermind Smallclub

A brand new festival called Bestival is headed to Bali (the name makes sense now, doesn't it?) from 30 September to 1 October, and because we love Bali so much, it's not all that surprising that we are celebrating right here in Perth! Head to Nevermind Smallclub on Sunday and see if you're lucky enough to win a ticket to the real thing. If not, you'll still get free entry and beats from Green George, JimiJ, Ace Basik and more. For deets, click here.
