Perth has seriously got it goin’ on these days. With so many new restaurants, cafes and bars popping up, we’re struggling to keep up.
We reckon others might be finding it tough to stay on top of what’s new and hip as well; which is why we’ve lovingly prepared you a list of 24 new cafes, bars and restaurants you need to visit.
Those of you residing in Perth’s north will want to swing by this adorable new cafe in Duncraig. Little H specialises in superb coffee and even more superb food—with some delish brekky options too we might add.
Coco + Boho
We love a cute new cafe and they don’t get much cuter than Coco + Boho. These guys are bringing great coffee and healthy tasty food to the good people of Coogee, and we think it’s well worth a visit.
This High Street restaurant slash bar is going to be your new favourite. Miss Chats is dishing up share plates like wagyu sliders, house made pork sausage rolls and fried nori squid with wasabi mayo; and pouring signature cocktails such as Amelia And The Wolf, consisting of fig liqueur, Ketel One Vodka, lemon juice and grapefruit bitters. Yum.
Dubbed Perth’s pretzel palace, we tend to agree. Pretzel's home is a super cute pastel pink shipping container at the Perth Cultural Centre and the team here is baking crazy good pretzels and topping them with all sorts of deliciousness. The Nutella one will blow your mind, or if you’re in more of a savoury mood, the jalapeno and chipotle one will get you going.
If you’re a fan of Japanese, you need to try this new spot in Northbridge. Sakura Sake specialises in traditional sushi, sashimi, tempura and all the delicious food you would expect to find in Japan—but the really exciting part is the sake menu. It's enormous. Get there immediately.
Doric St Cafe and Kitchen
Another brand newbie in Scarborough, Doric St Cafe and Kitchen is whipping up some seriously impressive breakfasts that are pretty healthy to boot. House made granola with matcha panna cotta and coconut yogurt, or a super healthy smashed avo topped with a roasted mushie—how to choose?
With humble beginnings as a coffee truck, Lady Latte was doing so well that they opened their very own cafe in Scarborough. The breakfast and lunch menu is seriously drool-worthy with gourmet jaffles and delish sweet treats. The Matador Jaffle with Spanish chorizo and chipotle aioli and the Paris, Je t’aime with nutella, marshmallows and raspberries would make anyone drool.
Baby Grumpy Sailor
The Grumpy Sailor is spreading its joy all over Fremantle with another cafe, Baby Grumpy Sailor. Located on Queen Street, Baby Grump is providing all the top notch coffee, bagels, treats and delights that you’ve come to know and love from this talented team.
Dusit Dheva Thai
Sitting pretty on James Street, Dusit Dheva has opened up shop in the spot that used to be Dusit Thai and the team here is cooking up authentic Thai inspired cuisine—in a very elegant setting we might add—using fresh and seasonal local produce.
Mister Gill’s Fish and Chip Bar
If you’re familiar with the bar Juanita’s, you’ll be very excited to hear that owner Murray Gill has opened a fish and chip shop just down the street and is offering beautifully cooked seafood and wine, plus a few cocktails for good measure. Mister Gill's for the win!
This brand spanking new modern Malaysian restaurant is dishing up authentic and traditional flavours, with a bit of a modern twist. And the exceptionally good news for city-dwellers is that Malaya is also open for breakfast, so you can treat yo-self before work.
The Packing Shed At Lawnbrook
While not technically ‘new’, this restaurant / winery has undergone some serious renovations so extreme that we think they should be included on this list. The Packing Shed, nestled in the Perth hills, has had a serious makeover, creating the most exquisite surrounds to enjoy your delicious home-cooked meal, local wines and sumptuous desserts.
Best Wishes Coffee
The newest kid on the Freo-cafe-scene-block is Best Wishes and we’re pretty happy about it. Why? Because they’re brewing exceptional coffee, baking yummy pies and spinning awesome tunes—all in their little home on Cantonment Street.
The people of Fremantle are still mourning the loss of X-Wray Cafe, but the silver lining is that the location is now home to Papa Kings—a bar and restaurant serving spicy Caribbean food and a wide range of rums and spinning reggae, calypso and Cuban beats. And in true Freo fashion, everything you see in the restaurant has been recycled or upcycled, making this one very environmentally friendly spot.
Mary Street Bakery
The team behind Mary Street Bakery appear to be taking over the world, and we are extremely excited about it. They’re opening their fourth bakery in the new Allendale Square development on St George’s Terrace in April 2017.
The awesome people behind Puck Espresso currently serve some of Perth’s best coffee at their little Palmyra espresso bar—and now they’ll be serving some of Perth’s best food as well, at their new salad and juice bar. Located right around the corner from Puck comes Pluck—so you can get some Asian style salads and a juice if you've already had your coffee fix for the day.
Beaumonde On The Point
Get your fancy pants out for the arrival of this place. Perth’s Riverside Drive will soon be home to Beamonde On The Point, a lounge bar offering cocktails, wines, premium beers and sweeping views of the river.
Ku De Ta
Don’t get us wrong, we’re all for an impromptu trip to Bali, but we’re pretty excited that soon we won’t have to get on a plane to get our Ku De Ta fix. This Seminyak favourite is set to open its Perth doors very soon, so watch this space.
Cucina On Hay
Mid-March will see the arrival of Perth’s newest Italian eatery, Cucina On Hay. Word on the street is that the team have made this place look and feel as classically Italian as possible. Think lots of alfresco tables, terra cotta tiles and greenery and vines tumbling down the walls. Pair that with the authentic menu using house-made ingredients and local WA produce, and we think we might have a new favourite spot.
In case you don’t know, MOP's doughnuts are speciality brioche-style doughnuts filled with unique and delicious flavours. And guess what—they’re expanding! They’re adding to their current Leederville cafe with a spot in Perth CBD, and word on the street is there might be another in Freo pretty soon too. Doughnuts for everybody!
The Meatball And Cocktail Bar
Everyone loves meatballs, especially enormous and reasonably priced meatballs like the ones you find at The Meatball Bar. Luckily for us, these guys are adding another location meatball empire right in the heart of Freo. Oh, and they’ll be pouring Nutella martinis too. Yas!
Roark And Co
Vegan friends listen up! In the spot that was once Blinco Street Cafe, Roark and Co will be opening a vegan cafe and pizzeria any day now. These guys popped up in Raine Square and at a few markets around town and the people of Perth love them so much they decided it was time to get a permanent spot to make their home. Open for breakfast and lunch during the week and dishing out wood-fired pizza on the weekend evenings, you'll be able to get your hands on plenty of salads, raw treats, kombucha and some epic coffee.
8 On The Point
This Chinese restaurant serves up traditional cuisine with a modern twist—and offers pretty stellar views of the Swan River as well. The chefs at 8 on the Point specialise in creating dishes which showcase the best of WA produce such as crayfish, snow crab and live WA abalone. If you dig Chinese and seafood, this is well worth a visit.
The team at this new spot on Flora Terrace will be providing healthy and affordable treats to the people of North Beach. Think juices, smoothies, smoothie bowls, coffee, teas, raw treats, fresh rolls and salads. We think we might find a new favourite at La Buda.
