Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur were two of the most influential hip hop artists who helped to define rap music. Their influence can still be heard in the work of new artists coming up in the music scene, which is remarkable not in the least because they have both been dead for over 20 years. Both victims of gang violence, their murders in the late 90s sparked global mourning in the hip-hop community and years-long investigations that have so far not yielded any culprits.
One of the members of the investigative task force was Greg Kading, a former LAPD police detective who now works as a private investigator in Southern California. From his experience investigating their murders, Kading published the book Murder Rap: The Untold Story of the Biggie Smalls & Tupac Shakur Murder Investigations, which was then used as a basis for the true-crime drama Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.
Now Kading is coming to Perth with a live show to discuss his particular vantage on the evidence and investigation of both rappers’ deaths. Music from both artists will be featured throughout the show as, together with MC Nick Nunan, Kading will discuss his police investigation into and put it into the context of the 90s hip-hop music climate.
For anyone who appreciates true crime and 90s hip hop, this is not to be missed.
