Ah, the humble nugget. The pinnacle of chicken technology. We’re not too sure which bit of a chicken goes into making a nugget, and to be honest we don’t want to know. The important thing is: there’s a festival dedicated to nuggets, and it’s coming to Australia, or more specifically Melbourne, next month.
It’s the latest zany scheme from the team behind local food truck park Welcome To Thornbury, whose job it is to sit around, drink beer, and come up with awesome and outrageous ideas.
What does a chicken nugget festival look like? Basically a sh*t-tonne of nuggets (what were you expecting?) The guys are also promising limited-edition spicy nuggets, a nugget burger, plus a range of dipping sauces from Melbourne Hot Sauce, including Thornbury’s own infamous Szechuan pepper scorcher.
There’s even going to be a dessert nugget (your guess is as good as ours), courtesy of Dip’s Gourmet Mini Doughnuts. We’ll approach that one with a mixture of appetite and caution.
Expect the usual motley food truck crew, including Hot Star Melbourne, Roadrunner Fried Chicken, Miss Katie’s Chicken Shack, The Real Jerk Food Truck, Gorilla Grill and Mr Burger. The bar will be running all day, slinging beers and nugget-themed drink specials. Entry is free, as usual, and pooches are more than welcome.
Where: Welcome To Thornbury, 520 High St Northcote, Melbourne
When: 11am, Saturday 11 November

PS. Yeah, we went out and bought nuggets specifically to eat and take this photo. That's just the kind of journalists we are. You're welcome.
