The days are long, the nights balmy, mince pies have officially hit supermarket shelves, and flickering fairy lights are strung up everywhere—the festive season has well and truly arrived and we could not be more excited.
So to celebrate, we’ve teamed up with City of Perth to bring you five must-do events to fill your silly season calendar.
Christmas Lights Trail
Get ready to fire up the ‘Gram because the City of Perth is getting lit up with an extravagant Christmas Lights Trail, once again. This stunning light display runs until Boxing Day, plus every Friday and Saturday night you’ll not only be treated to a dazzling celebration of lights but roving entertainment and performances. Choose from three mapped out journeys dotted with 27 mesmerising Christmas light installations, vibrant decorations lighting up your evenings and even festive projections throughout Perth CBD, Northbridge, a micro trail at East Perth. Either way, you’re in for a darn good time.
A Christmas without a movie binge isn’t really Christmas at all, so get down to Northbridge Piazza for Festive Flicks. Be sure to arrive nice and early to grab the popcorn, a bean bag and kick back with all the classics like The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Grinch and Elf. They’re showing every Saturday until 21 December, kicking off at 5:30pm. And true to the jolly holiday spirit, these showings are absolutely free.
‘Tis the season to give, and what better way to support local artists and gift something totally unique this Christmas than at the Cathedral Square Christmas Markets. Running every Friday until 13 December, get your hands on everything from handmade homewares to eclectic gifts while soaking up the glimmering Christmas Lights Trail. ‘Tis also the season to stuff your face so head to the Twilight Hawkers Market every Friday until the end of February for drool-worthy bites from around the globe. We’re already drooling.
Consider your inner child well and truly satisfied with the Christmas Pageant back for its 47th year. The pageant is going down along St Georges Terrace on 7 December from 7:30pm and it’s absolutely free, as always. Expect loads of Christmas cheer, colour and pure magic as the floats pass you by, and keep your eyes peeled for a secret special guest.
Get down to Langley Park on 14 December from 4pm to feast your ears on the magical sounds from the Christmas Symphony. After the massive success from last year’s event (that drew a crowd of 30,000 people, no less) this is a night not be missed. The performance will feature classics from ballet, opera and the big screen so you can sing your heart out to tunes like Jingle Bells. Weekend, sorted.
With a jam-packed festive calendar, there’s no better excuse to hit the City of Perth this Christmas. And with free three-hour parking on weekends and holidays at select locations, it’s never been easier.
