The freshest addition to Beaux Lane in Mount Lawley, Grab A Yabby is the wildest new dining craze to hit Perth.
Serving fresh seafood, yummy cocktails and delicious meatier eats (for those not a fan of the fish), we stopped by a few weeks ago, donned our bibs and our gloves, and got stuck into the menu.
We kicked off with the soft shell crab sliders and some sweet potato fries, because carbs are delicious, people! Let me just say that the sweet potato fries were easily some of the best I have ever eaten. They went down a treat with Grab A Yabby’s signature mocktail, the mango berry bliss, which is infused with fresh mint—so good!
Then it was time to get our gloves dirty with some king crab legs, yabbies (we had to) and crawfish (like a yabby, but American). Served in bags and smothered in Grab A Yabby’s delicious, Cajun inspired special sauce, we were chowing down on fresh and tasty crab meat, not even the slightest bit worried about the smears of sauce all over our faces, after a quick lesson from one of the waiters on how to crack open the crab legs. Once we had gotten through some of the legs we were giddy to find potatoes and corn cobs hiding in the bottom of the bag, coated in the tasty sauce. It’s safe to say those disappeared in a heartbeat.
The yabbies and crawfish (which were covered in XO sauce, made with lemongrass, shallots, dried prawns and scallops) were a little trickier to figure out how to get into, but the crew at Grab A Yabby were on hand to help us pop the meat out of these little critters, which were delish!
Once we’d made a big mess and mopped up all of the remaining sauce with the leftover fries, we peeled off our gloves, carefully unhooked our bibs and washed it all down with a granito cocktail—vodka and soda water infused with crushed mint and a dash of lime. Yum!
Because your hands are too dirty to snap selfies while you dine, Grab A Yabby offer to take polaroids with you and your crew to remember the occasion, which we love because we could all do with a little more time being engaged in the real world rather than our lives online, right?
