The smash-hit neighbourhood Italian joint that is Monsterella Pizza is getting a little sister, or, more aptly, a mother, in new wine bar-meets-pasta joint-meets-overflow hall, Mummucc (meaning Mother in the Abruzzese dialect). For anyone who’s been hit with a craving for Monsterella’s perfectly crafted Neopolitan-style pizzas on a lazy Friday evening and been unable to elbow their way onto a table in the bustling corner-shop, this will come as extremely welcome news.
But don’t expect all the same tricks at Mummucc, which is set to pop up within walking distance of the flavour-HQ. The emphasis at this new spot will be on natural Italian wines and homely snack food that compliments the drink—think cold cuts, fresh bread and other simple favourites, amped up by pasta specials made by owner Tania Nicolo’s mother, just as they are up the road.
In other words, Mummucc will serve as the perfect waiting room for punters wanting to eat at Monsterella, but with Nicolo and husband Ryan Bookless at the helm, we suspect it’ll become a favourite in its own right. For those who are really impatient (and really obsessed with the aforementioned pizza), you will also be able to order a pie from Monsterella and eat it there.
More places to eat pizza, pasta and fresh cuts and drink delicious wines are okay by us, no matter which way you slice it. with Mummucc due to open around February, it’s safe to say we’ll be counting down the days for this one.
Until then, check out Perth's best pizza.
