By Kirsty Petrides
1st Jun 2017

Here we are, guys. It’s June. The good news is you’ve made it this far without killing anyone in your office—well done. The bad news is, it’s officially winter. Luckily for us though, Perth has got has some rad events happening this month that are not only awesome but also FREE. From dance parties and festivals to markets and a night dedicated to pork and wine, here are the best free events happening in Perth this June.

Pinot And Pig At Lot 20

Northbridge, Thursday 1 June

The team at Lot 20 is really bringing the goods with free events, and their latest—Pinot and Pig—is definitely no exception. Guests will have the chance to mingle with the winemakers from some of WA’s leading wine producers—3 Drops, Castelli Estate, Howard Park, Castle Rock Estate and Abbey Creek—while enjoying complimentary wine tastings and free bar snacks. If you’re super hungry though, there is an a la carte menu on offer with dishes created to perfectly pair with the wines being showcased. And yes, they are all pork. Think pork belly bites, pulled pork pancakes and pork rillettes.

Beer Through The Ages Quiz Night At Little Creatures

Fremantle, Friday 2 June

Do you know beer? Like, really know beer? If so, you should probably pencil in this quiz night hosted by the good people at Little Creatures. They are dedicating a night to beer through the ages—all the way from the fifth millennium BC when humans first began brewing beer, to today, where the brewing industry is a global business. Test your knowledge, win some prizes and indulge your thirst with the Creatures crew as they take you on a historical beer journey through the ages.

Perth Makers Market

Elizabeth Quay, Sunday 4 June

90’s One Hit Wonders At Universal Bar

Northbridge, Saturday 3 June

Who doesn’t love those 90’s songs where you remember every single lyric, but could not recall the name of the artist if your life depended on it? One hit wonders, god bless you. Enjoy the sounds of all your favourite 90’s jams from the Universal live band and DJs. Entry is free, drinks are a measly $7 between 5pm and 6pm, and there is a mouth-watering slow-cooked Southern style BBQ menu available from 4pm.

Tom Tilley DJ Set At Botanica Bar

Innaloo, Sunday 4 June

Who knew Tom Tilley could DJ? Here we were, thinking his only skills were talking over people and cutting them off when he’s interviewing them (just jokes Tom, we love you.) However apparently the man is also a mean DJ, and he is helping you celebrate the long weekend at Botanica with a free DJ set. Botanica has a line-up of other local DJs to join Tom for the afternoon, and will also be offering some sweet drinks specials to really celebrate the long weekend in style.

State Of The Art Festival

Elizabeth Quay, Monday 5 June

SOTA Festival returns for 2017, presented by those in the know for all things WA music—WAM. The sixth annual SOTA Festival is kicking off at Elizabeth Quay Monday 5 June from 12 noon, as part of the WA Day long weekend festivities. And considering this is a FREE event, get a load of this line-up—Karnivool, Drapht, Gyroscope, Bob Evans, Tired Lion, Katy Steele, Crooked Colours, Abbe May and loads more. To keep you energised, there will be loads of food trucks offering everything from tacos, curry, dumplings and bao to crepes and sweet treats. Or you can head into the licensed Urban Providore area, where Perth’s most popular restaurants will be serving up their flagship dishes, and local produce will also be showcased and available to purchase.

Concerts At One At St Georges Cathedral

Perth, Wednesday 7 and 21 June

Free lunchtime concerts are back at St Georges Cathedral, so why not get out of the office and have a real lunch break with a side of music at this beautiful venue. These are happening every second Wednesday from 1pm until 1:45pm and each session features musicians from WAAPA, WA high schools, the Yoon Sen Lee Music School, the UWA School of Music, and the UWA Music Students' Society.

Speaker Box 1993 At The Newport Hotel

Wish you could go back in time to a 90s house party? Us too, which is why we’re pretty excited about this Speaker Box 90s House Party 1993 Edition event. Entry is free, drink specials are on offer and for all you young’ens who happen to be born in the year 1993 (so that would make you, what, 12?) you get a FREE 90s party bag. FREE events and more FREE stuff.

Winter Beer Celebration At Mane Liquor

Burswood, 16 & 17 June

Now, this technically isn’t ‘free’ but for the amount of value you’ll get for your $20 ticket, you’ll be coming out on top. The Winter Beer celebration will feature 13 different local brewers showcasing the very best of their winter seasonal brews, as well as their regular releases. Local cidery Custard & Co and ginger beer producer Black Kite Beverage Co. will be on hand; and two of WA’s best distilleries, Whipper Snapper Distillery and Hippocampus Metropolitan Distillery, will also be around serving up amazing cocktails. Your ticket includes a FREE taster at every stall in the hall (there are almost 20) plus a free Belgian-style beer glass for you to take home. We reckon that’s as good as free.

Perth Upmarket At UWA

Crawley, Sunday 25 June

Perth Upmarket is back! Our city’s premier quarterly market for original and handcrafted wares, the June edition will see 180 of Perth’s most talented artists, designers, craftsmen and gourmets all under one roof at The University of Western Australia’s Winthrop Hall. And the most exciting part (besides the fact that event is free, parking is free and there are ATMs on site so you don’t have to worry about not having cash) there will also be a gourmet section of local tastiness.
